I know old Honus is an injury risk, but missing 21 out of the first 72 games seems a bit extreme. Oh well, at least his backup is doing alright....

That's how come I get rid of him if I end up with him after a draft . Let someone else have a player who will miss 30+ games 95+% of the time . Makes his 6+ M not worth it at all .

Beg to differ. Yeah, he's a risk, but what other ss can deliver these #s in a pitcher's park?

I hate injuries...yet have used Honus with excellent results several times. Yeah, he'll miss a fair amount of games. But, I pay $$ for a decent backup for him, and find it worth it, i.e. Crosetti, Bancroft. Once even carried Bowa and Honus. Used Bowa as a late inning sub for Honus, and of course, Bowa got in a lot of games when Honus was on the DL. But, that was a $100m league, and generally wouldn't recommend tying up that much money with two players for the same position.

I also hate injuries but Honus is worth most of the time. You do need to make sure you've got an adequate backup though.

When you think of the Steamshovel, you should think of Bancroft.

They go together like peanut butter and chocolate.

Peanut butter and chocolate, mmmmmh.

I have always been baffled by honus's propensity to miss a ton of games in almost any league he is in. He played on 137 out of 154 games in 1909, missing 17 games, and yet seems to routinely miss 30-50 games in every league he is in. I have had him twice and he put up great #'s in both cases. he missed 41 games, and yet had the following line in baker...

[code:1:1502de0147]Tm G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS BA SLG OBP
BEA 121 507 109 171 34 7 8 57 53 75 29 9 .337 .479 .400
[/code:1:1502de0147]

However, the other time i had him was in Sportsman, he missed only 18 games, and his numbers were most impressive...

[code:1:1502de0147]Tm G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS BA SLG OBP
EXT 144 592 105 204 36 9 8 63 69 95 35 23 .345 .476 .414[/code:1:1502de0147]

So, i think that he is usually worth it, even with the injury risk, and if you happen to get a full season (or close to it) out of him, he is one of, if not THE best bargain in the deck!

my .02... :)
