Yankee 56 Dilema

playing in Yankee 56
3 pitchers parks in the division.
Rest of league is 6 hitting parks, 3 pitchers parks.

Would you rather have:

McCovey
Schmidt
Selkirk

or

Mincher
Steinfeldt
Ruth

Rest of position players:
2B: Collins
SS: Yount
C: Hegan/Lake
CF: Doby
RF: R Jackson
1B Platoon: Roenicke

Thoughts?

Roenicke offers little as a platoon at 1B at home and pitcher parks. Cash would be a better everyday player. Schmidt at 3B at home and pitcher parks will underperform unless you expect 60% LH SPs.

IMHO you need decent pitching to win at Yankee 56, not sure what your staff is like. A team can have a low (<4) ERA by getting value guys for your park, CArlton, Seaver, Kaat, Sutton, or there are some decent options in non * SPs like Boddicker, Feller, Simmons.

its an 80 mill league, staff is Lolich, Demaree, Kaat, Mcnally with Fryman as big dog in the pen.

IMHO it is often a mistake to go with 3 LH SPs in LH parks, especially hard LH like McNally, Kaat and Lolich. With all the hitter parks (and I assume hitting teams) the RH sluggers will hurt you on the road and to some degree at home. A starting point is 1 RH Even, 1 RH biased LH (Palmer type), 1 Even LH and 1 Hard LH like Lolich/Kaat, all based upon opposition.

How about Covington and Clines (pitcher parks vs LHs) in LF, Cash at 1B, Steiny at 3B and spend some $$ on SPs?

Other possibilities in Y56 include Mayer, Palmer (if there are several platoons or S hitters in your division), Hughson, Winter, Sturdivant, Covo, Stieb and others.

Oh, forgot, Sutton would be a better choice than Demaree IMHO. He can pitch well at home, is good in pitcher parks due to low OBP and will be OK in hitter parks, great value on your team.

I hear ya, even though I don't love Schmidt here. I do love McCovey, and do like Selkirk so I'd choose those 3.

I've never used McCovey in Yank 56 but I had him hit 60 in Dunn.

Actually, noticed that Rosen is available.
So I need to fill 3 position slots, I need preferably 2 LH power hitters (as I have R. Jackson and L. Doby--need at least 4 for Yankee 56) and 1 RH hitter

Here are my options:

LF power options: Ruth, Selkirk, Covington
LF RH options: C. Jones

3B: power options: Schmidt or Rosen
3B LH options: Walling, Brett
3B RH: Steinfeldt

1B: McCovey, Mincher, Powell

So I could get my RH hitter from either LF or 3B

In your park I would take the Steinfeldt trio. For me it's a no brainer. I'm a big Schmidt fan in hr 20 parks but other than that he is a liability given his salary. Ruth is just the best card in the set and perfect for your park. When I have Ruth on my team I just try to make sure that the guys in front of him have 50+ ways on base and that I have a good power hitter right behind him, preferably one who clutches up. Oquendo and Keller are good guys to have in front of the Babe as is Davy Jones.

I am often faced with the choice of Mincher vs. McCovey. 95% of the time I choose Mincher. No knock on McCovey except that Mincher usually hits 30-40 hrs. in about 400 at bats. Love Roenicke as a platoon mate, but not for your park. I'd platoon him with Burns if the issue is money and Knight if you can afford it.

I usually have three hard lefties in Dunn or Yankee 56 ( the latter may be my favorite park) and Clemens or Seaver to round out the staff, unless I get Koufax (for Dunn, not your park). Blue has worked very well for me in both although I think Lolich and Kaat were tailor made for Dunn and Yankee 56.

From what I've seen of your teams recently, you should be giving advice, not asking for it. :cry:
