Tell me I am crazy...please

I do not see trading Reyes for Rollins as a problem as both players are very good. You do not see much trading in leagues due to cap space and being able to improve your team with a fair trade is great for both teams. If Rollins was traded for Luna then that would be savy by one owner and the other owner would need to pick up the hockey helmet and put it on before they hurt themself :D .

There is a 4 million dollar difference between Reyes and Rollins for a reason. I commend the GM who made the trade! It is true Berkman was thrown in but the guy who gave up Rollins gave up Kotchman, and neither team is using the million dollar outfielder. There is no salary cap in this league. One guy made a great trade, and he other one did not.

There may be a $4 Million difference but sometimes that does not matter. I had Reyes on my team with Rollins on another team in the league and here are their stats.

Reyes- .271 BA, 33 2B, 12 3B, 13 HR, 84 RBI, 85 SB's, 96 Runs, 16 E's,
.324 OBP, .415 SLG

Rollins- .256 BA, 25 2B, 22 3B, 19 HR, 91 RBI, 22 SB's, 83 Runs, 11 E's
.322 OBP, .456 SLG

I would rather have Reyes and free up $$ for another need if there was one (Never palyed in a league with no cap, that must be fun), but that is me and we all have our own ideas when we are building our teams.

First let me clear something up, This is a live draft league, there is no salary cap. So freeing up money is not an issue. Secondly, we were 51 games into the season when the trade was made. Thirdly, I made a mistake when I said there was a reason Reyes is 5.2 million, and Rollins is 9.2 million; there are many reasons. Rollins has more doubles, more triples, more homers, a slugging percentage that is over 100 points higher. He is also a 1 in the field(the best you can be). And he can not get hurt! So if you think the two players are comparable you are very much mistaken. With salary cap NOT AN ISSUE(and it isn't), I would take Rollins seven days a week, and twice on Sunday(for double headers). You are entitled to your opinion, that is what these message boards are all about. But you are insulting your intelligence, and mine by trying to say that was a good trade. Reyes is a fine player, but Rollins is an MVP type. Let me put it to you this way; it would be like trading Aramis Ramirez(8 million) for Alex Rodriguez(12 million).....almost. Or Jake Peavy(9+million) for Aaron Harang. There is nothing wrong with Harang,...but he is not Peavy!

Why do you think the smart GMs always advise the newbies not to drop players once the season starts? The answer is you wind up with a 70 million dollar team trying to compete against an 80 million dollar team. And in this case the salary difference is even higher between the teams.
Of course there will be exceptions to the rule; where the player who costs half as much out performs the more expensive player,....every once in a while. But give me the 9 million dollar SS over the 5 million dollar SS every time. I respect your opinion, but disagree with it ...big time! If we are ever in a league together and you want to trade me Reyes for Rollins(in a live draft non salary cap situation) please by all means, be my guest. That is why I commend the GM who made the trade, and have to wonder about the other GM. Who knows,....maybe he is still learning the game. But it is rather obvious to me.

Money is not an issue, there is NO salary cap! This was a live draft league. Freeing up the money does you no good! Do you get the picture now? I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Good luck to you in all your leagues, and if we ever wind up in a league together, by all means send me your trade offers.

Array 0113 said[quote:f492c162ac]The offer came to me which included Rollins, and my guess is that the owner wanted to try something different. Rollins gives me a little more pop, a 1 at SS, and more flexibility in my lineup. I'm sure Reyes will fit his new owner better, and having Berkman can't hurt in the right situation. But for me, I have HanRam at DH, Fielder at 1B, and Vlad in RF, so Berkman was little more than a PH and defensive/injury replacement; Kotchmann can fill this role, and his defense is bet[/quote:f492c162ac]

It is funny that HE offered you Rollins because I offered him Derek Jeter and Dmitri Young for him. And I respected his decision to decline. But he is using Hafner at DH and Dmitri Young is a hitting machine. He is currently batting over .360 for me. Jeter is doing well too. So maybe I am lucky he did not accept. But I think he is unlucky for the giving up Rollins and Kotchman for Reyes and Berkman. Either way, Array 0113 made a heck of a deal. Good for him!

Yes, this post was edited because thisisray was kind enough to point out that; I misspelled Derek. Thank you Ray!

What are the stats of Reyes and Rollins before the trade and after the trade? I play in leagues with cap's so it seems to me that if you are playing in a non-cap league you cannot afford to have anyone not pulling their weight or you will be out of the race in a heartbeat and need to find the right players for your Stadium. What Stadiums where Reyes and Rollins playing in before and after the Trade? What are the pitching staff's of the Divisional Teams? What was the record of both teams before and after the trade?

I do know one thing, with Strat and HAL you usually see great players never near their real stats and guy's who are bench players put up great numbers because guy's know the probability of the dice rolls.

As for Peavy and Beckett, I them him in a keeper league from the 2001-to-current and with Yankee Stadium and they both blew. The 2007 Peavy and Beckett cards look great but Peavy had an ERA of 3.40 and gave up 33 HR's, Beckett had an ERA of 4.29 and gave up 43 Hr's. I would have loved trading them. Anyways, Good Luck in your league. SGT D
