So What do you guys think of my first team?

OK, I bit the bullet on Catcher. Replaced Bowa with Washington, Kennedy with Heath and Cerone with Lavelliere. I will Platoon Heath and Lavelliere as they both have -2 arms.

Gonna try Wallach at 3B.

You don't necessarily need a #5 starter (at least an effective one) with four "*" starters. (A SP with a "*" needs only 3 days' rest between starts, so, with 4 "*" starters, you don't ever have to start the #5 starter.) The #5 starter could pitch in relief, but the $1.66 Cerutti costs is too much, especially if you're looking for money. I'd take a flyer on Thurmond or Kison, if they're available. (If they suck, put the SP in the #5 slot in the manager settings, and HAL won't use him in relief.) In any event, you should get a $0.75 "placeholder."

He's probably not available, but Reuschel is a very good SP. #1 starter quality at times. (I'd take him over any of your starters except Higuera, and even then it's probably debatable.)

gleaton is a great gamble... He won't always be good but he has at least 2 years where he could be great in your BP and 2 others that could be decent.

well i kind of agree with toisan... i know i said cerutti is a good gamble (i still think he is) if it was me i would get a .75 placeholder and spend the money on another cheap reliever. When I go for a cheap bullpen (gleaton, moore) i always try to carry 6 going into a season (sometimes 7) because you know half of them could wind up sucking. Basically the more cards you have the better your chances of landing a high number of good ones.

Looks good now. Note sure if I'd spend that much on a catching platoon, but what the heck, you seem to have the money. If B.Martinez is available, you might consider taking him for RH CA. (Look at the cards and see his bp effects.) But note that Oester is a 4 at SS.

wallach is a good move... no oester shouldn't play short i see you added washington. washington could turn out to be adequate but maybe not... if it was me i would get another cheapo 2 ss (schofield, dejesus) as a hedge in case washington fails or is only good one way..

OK, did a little more minor tweaking this AM. Ted Power became available so I took him istead of Leach and as I like to have a 3rd catcher just in case, I picked Jamie Quirk back up just as insurance and as a bench player.

I really appreciate everyone's help I hope this changes all work for the best!

Quirk is fine and you can keep him if Heath or Lavalliere disappoint. Lavalliere should be great at Shea-- good D, good OBP.

You have a really nice team right now. You need to keep an eye opn what everyone's doing during the season because some of these players will not perform up to their cards (I mean, some of the cards won't perform up to the stats, we're not talking real people here!).

The fun of this game is adjusting your team on the fly. Your team is well set-up. Enjoy it-- it'll take the sting off the final few weeks of the real-life Mets' season. Yeah, I root for them too.

Hey Griff...Welcome to your new addiction!! You got some great advice from a bunch of guys, and you've changed your team for the better in a lot of ways. I'll just toss in my 2-cents also and mention that I love Bowa at SS, and I don't think either of your back-up-type shortstops can hold a candle to him in any park. Watch out for Heath...he can hit, but his T-rating is high (T-9), which means he'll throw the ball into the outfield a lot when guys try to steal. I go with 1 main catcher (you have 2) and one $.75 back up usually to save money.

Also, Cerutti is an expensive #5 starter, and even though he can relieve there are better relievers for $.75 usually available. I've had luck with Thurmond, Kison, Pastore to name a few as the #5 man.
