Draft Everyone 80s Keeper League -- Rules discussion/P3s

Postby BC Manager » Mon Feb 06, 2006 10:56 pm

I'm stealing this idea from AT. He's currently
running a 2006 theme league where ALL players in
the '06 set are drafted and available for use by
each team.

I thought this idea fit better in the 80s format,
and as a Keeper league. Here's the idea so far:

- all players in the 80s game will be drafted
(this should mean 54 rounds!)
- you own rights to all the players you drafted.
Only these players can be put on your team, or
added during the season, unless trades are made.
- will be a keeper league: you will have rights
to the same players every year, but can make up
your roster differently from year to year
- there will be some rule about dropping players;
when you drop a player a certain number of times,
he becomes available to be claimed by other teams

I think this one will be a blast and we can do
season after season. I've already recruited most of the owners from another keeper league I run. If you're interested and prepared to stick with this for back-to-back-to-back-to-back....seasons, sign up below:

5. IMB
6. BigAlric
7. YountFan
8. T.Richardson
9. Mav
10.
11.
12.

Pick 3 states will be used to determine the all-important draft order. Rules are still to be sorted out regarding:
- how many drops before a player is a FA
- rules governing ballparks and changing them
- division assignments (same every season or new every year, or every few years?)

Feel free to put your two cents in about the rules if you've signed up.

I missed out big time on the decade league. I follow those threads and it looks like a ton of fun. Additionally, how can anyone refuse to be in a league with a class act of managers such as this?

Rules

Postby BC Manager » Tue Feb 07, 2006 3:11 am

Here's what I roughly had in mind for the rules that are yet to be determined:

[b:52bcfb7cff]Drop penalty[/b:52bcfb7cff]

To keep the rosters from being exactly the same year after year, I propose there be some sort of rule regarding the number of times you drop a specific player. For example, the rule could be that after you've dropped a player 3 times, he becomes a free agent. Or another possibility I thought of was that the restriction can vary depending on the player's salary. For example: >$7 million, 1 drop; >$5 million, 2 drops; $3-5 million, 3 drops; etc.

I would just like the possibility of teams having to part with some players after a while, so, for example, Brett isn't owned by the same team forever.

[b:52bcfb7cff]Ballparks[/b:52bcfb7cff]

I was thinking every team could draft 2 parks (exclusively) with some restriction on how often you change parks, ie., only once every 3 seasons or something.

[b:52bcfb7cff]Divisions[/b:52bcfb7cff]

I would prefer that we don't keep the same division alignment season after season. We could change up divisions something like every 3 years. Or we could even randomize divisions every season.

I'm interested in all of your feedback on how to deal with the above issues.

I was also thinking this would be a DH league. Snake draft on Penn's site. Pick 3 will be used for draft order (LOW to HIGH), so everyone can start listing states.

BC -- I love the idea about only 1 drop for 7 mill, 2 drops for 5 mill, etc. Only challenge is how to keep track of that.

I also like mixing up the divisions every season -- this is our fifth season in the 80's Decade, and I'm tired of looking up and seeing YountFan's dust --- i'd much rather see somebody else's dust from time to time

great theme BC. Lookin' forward to the draft most of all. 56 rounds --- we can make that last at least a full week !!

Re the motion for graduated drop based on salary. The tracking is the issue. One way to track is to have a topic for the drops and when you drop a player you update the boards. That way someone like BC can keep a message with a running total. My suggestion is 2mil and less drops are FA at the time of the drop. That save quite a bit of tracking. [b:f06e8cee4f]or the even easier method of you drop 'em, you lose 'em.[/b:f06e8cee4f] It is a keeper league and if you decide not to keep them, then you lose them.

Divisions based on the final standings as in playoff teams in the east. Next 4 by winning pct in central and the rest in the west.

Two ballparks that can be changed season to season, or traded.

Parks- I'm a huge fan of having each owner draft 2 parks. I would not restrict the use of those parks.

Drops- Very hard to track. I'd like to see no drop restrictions for "your" players. The idea of having all of those players is so that you can use them season to season to make up for bad cards. Might I suggest that after season 1, you are only granted to protect 40 players. Should you add a non-roster player during the year NOT on your 40 man roster during season 2 and beyond, the player you drop becomes available to all. In addition, players over 4m must make it on your team at least every other season or they may "demand to be traded" and must be dropped or traded. Should they go unclaimed prior to the start of the next year, you may sign them after the first night's games.

I'd like to see division stay the same, although I am not firm on that by any means.
