Depending on the final rules I may join IMB on the sidelines and stick the the decade format.

I've been sicker than a dog these last couple days and was unable to keep up with all the rule proposals/suggestions. When we finally decide on something, would someone be kind enough to post the final version of the rules on these boards? It would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yeah folks. I think we are all over complicating the process.

If we stick to the original idea of drafting all players and go from there, I think we will get more enjoyment out of this.

Add enough rounds to get as many players drafted as possible and then add 2 additional rounds to include stadiums.

Stick to the idea of alternating divisions based on records.

This will allow minimal off-season delay and will still somewhat guarantee mroe random player use.

I'm sorry to see IMB bow out and possibly YF. But glad to add Jablowmi to the mix (that sounds a little odd).

I hope the rules discussion hasn't turned anyone off. I've kinda been letting people just throw out their ideas, but I have to say I'm not in favour of a lot of the suggestions.

In essence, I don't want to complicate this concept too much. One of the things that works with the Decade league is that it's fairly simple and straightforward. There's little that has to be tracked. No off-season salary caps. No keeper lists. You just have to build a valid TSN roster when the season starts.

Well I want this league to be even simpler. And as much as I appreciate the suggestions, I don't want to get away from the original concept. Having 40-man rosters gets away from the concept, as does having a salary cap (other than the $80 mil during the season).

The idea is to have every 80s player be the property of one of the 12 teams and for these franchises to carry forward from year to year. My only interest in adding further rules is to facilitate some player movement particularly among the high end players.

One idea I've had is that we categorize players based on where they're drafted in the original draft. So, for example, let's say all players drafted in the first 4 rounds are in this top tier category. We could then implement some type of waiver rule for dropping these players. Or a specific number of times they can be dropped before becoming a free agent.

Once again, I don't think hording of the Barry Bonnells and Chris Speiers matters. It'sMario Soto and Ryne Sandberg staying with the same teams indefinitely that we want to prevent.

So, any more ideas? At some point I'll just make an executive decision, based on what seems to have the most consensus, while staying true to the original concept.

Don't worry Al. When the rules are finalized I'll make sure there clearly posted somewhere easy to find. And I would like to be able to do that before the end of the week.

Why not draft all players, as discussed, but simply require everyone to sign certain players to contracts? For example, everyone must sign their top 10 picks to contracts of:

10 years - 1 contract
7 years - 2 contracts
5 years - 5 contracts
3 years - 2 contracts
2 years - 1 contract

Or, the contract signing can be based on salary (anybody over, say, $5.5M).

This way, you get some forced player movement, but not significant movement. With this many players, there will be significant trading. If I'm doing well late in the season and I have 5 year Brett's bad card on my AAA team, I may trade him to a struggling team for 2 year Bob Horner and 2 year Joe Sambito.

The waiver rule is complicated and requires significant in-season tracking. The contract deal limits the tracking to the end of the year for a limited # of players.

Just a thought.

a contract system will, of course, require a small waiver deal every couple of years.

BC,

I agree with Sykes --- we're trying to make this way too complicated, and all the complex rule changes are scaring me from a time commitment standpoint as well. If we go back to your rules -- draft all the players, keep it simple, it will work best.

That may keep guys like YountFan and myself able to stay involved and it will be more enjoyable.

We tried a keeper league last fall with certain players on 5 year, 4 year, 3 year contracts, and the league fell apart after the 1st season becuase it was way to complex to keep track of and took too much time. Let's not make the same mistake here.

Stick your theme, BC. Let's have fun.

sean, the problem with the other keeper league was that (1) the "commish" disappeared, and (2) it required nearly a full draft every year b/c you could only protect a limited # of players (unless I'm mixing up leagues).

In any event, I'm just happy to be part of the show and I think the basic approach will be great.
