Draft Everyone 80s Keeper League -- Rules discussion/P3s

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

I don't know, Ice. If my team sucks mid- to late-season, I'm looking for struggling/released stars on good teams. I think these kinds of moves will be frequent (and not without controversy!).

[quote:b56ef3bebe]i am struggling how a 60 win team can ever improve with all players drafted and untouchable. i would think that player will eventually just give up and stop dumping credits into that team[/quote:b56ef3bebe]

That's why the draft is pretty important. And if there were any newbies, I'd be concerned too. But with this group of managers BC has assembled, I'm confident the "good players" will be fairly spread out throughout the league.

Also, you have to consider that we'll have 50+ man rosters. Each manager could conceivably put out a completely different team every other year. So the odds are that a team won't be bad and REMAIN bad for very long.

i am just urging everyone to think this issue through...I have had 100 win teams with a great set of managers...and i have sucked....winning only 70 games...i don't know the answer....and i don't really want to voice my opinion too much...i just want a league where i just play and let others make decisions...it is more fun for me that way...but it is something we should not underestimate...i was in a keeper league and won it and the next season too many people quit for this reason. again i am up for anything not complicated....but think if we can come up with a way to improve your talent during offseasons that would help the struggling teams.

Rules almost done

I think the decision is going to be that the only player movement will be through trade (ie., no waivers, drafts, keeper lists, etc.). If this doesn't seem to work we can readdress the distrubution of talent after a season or two.

I think with the mystery card and having 54 players to play with, it will be unlikely a decent manager will have a losing season every season. Also remember that we're going to put the teams with the 4 poorest records in the West each season. That should allow some to turn around (at least one of those 4 will make the playoffs).

Now just a decision about ballparks. I'm still in favour of everyone drafting two. And then, how about you have to use the same ballpark for at least 2 seasons in a row -- no one can change their park until season 3 and you can't change back the season after you switch.

Again, drawing from my own experience from the Decade Keeper League, we only had one perenial "loser" in our league (who ended up dropping out) but it's NOT because he didn't have good players. It was mainly because he did nothing in terms of trades/add/drops. I'll bet he didnt even keep track of injuries either. T-Rich ended up taking over that team and was a playoff contender the very next season.

This is the 80's game, folks. You've gotta be pro-active to stay ahead. 54 man rosters x 5 possible seasons per card = 270 possible seasons per team. You can't tell me thats not enough to stay out of the cellar every year.

Thanks Albert. I was going to use the Decade example, too.

My proposed ballpark rule is to address this issue. Being able to switch parks every couple of years gives an owner another way to address deal with a losing franchise. But I wouldn't want the parks to change every year.

If I can get some yays or nays to my proposed stadium rule, then I can finalize the rules and we can proceed.

When the rules are finalized I'll start a new thread with the rules outlined on the first post.

I'll go with 2 drafted stadiums per team. Unique, I assume?
