ATG III-Coming this Summer-Suggestion thread

I don't want to see 60-70 teams in the data set. I like the idea that there are guys that are nearly impossible to get, forcing a different autodraft strategy. Add a few teams, but get rid of a few that have limited usable cards. I could do without the Padres, 65 and/or 77 Dodgers, Blue Jays, 50 Phillies, 86 Red Sox. Any more than 60 teams, and it's more likely that anyone can get practically everyone that they want or a virtual duplicate, and then it gets more like WhatIf.

Improving the bullpen logic is the #1 game engine priority. Give us an option not to pull our ace pitcher for a PH in the top of the 6th down 1-0. If we have a RH/LH closer combo, with the RH set to avoid lefties and LH set to avoid righties, don't let Donnell Bennett face Cleon Jones, Dimaggio, and Banks in a row with Lasher rested and on the bench. And set up more of a cumulative fatigue for bullpen guys, so Barney Schultz can't throw 260 innings with a 3.50 ERA in a 200M league (as he did for me once).

Oh, and one more check box on the individual players - DO NOT PINCH RUN FOR.

I don't know what TSN's restrictions are from SOM, but I wonder if it might be possible to change let's say 25% of the teams once every six months with teams from a larger list (100??) that all are not being used. We lost teams from ATG I as well as other teams that might be added.......

........This way the game can remain fresh. The problem I see is the overlap period, one set of leagues ending while the new leagues are starting with an updated group of teams. The computer experts could better explain if this would be a problem that would be too difficult to overcome. Just a thought, that way the game would be changing every six months and the mix of teams could be somewhat endless or prevent boredom for quite sometime. :)

If they just used the same version of the game that you get with CDROM it would take care of a lot of the problems everyone complains about.

[quote:9b6b7f8716]3. In general I want more transparency. For example, HAL has ballpark double effects but we don't know what they are. List each ballparks effects, not just singles and homeruns. I want to make intelligent decisions, not blind guesses.
[/quote:9b6b7f8716]Yes, no reason these numbers cannot be put on the ballpark chart so we know which ballparkd give up more doubles and which ones suppress them. And since there is no ballpalk effects roll on cards provide a brief explanation of how this works in the game.
[quote:9b6b7f8716]4. In the same vein, I want to know what the ranges are for aggressive baserunning for example i.e. is very aggressive a green light on 1-8 throws or what. [/quote:9b6b7f8716]It would be nice to have a better idea of exactly what aggressive verses conservative means. Is it based on odds of success or is it simply odds of something happening irrespective of chances for success?

[quote:9b6b7f8716]5. Individual game settings, not just for three game series. This allows tweaking lineups to match up against individual pitchers, just like you can in real strat.
[/quote:9b6b7f8716]This would be very high on my list of desirables.
[quote:9b6b7f8716]9. Change the playoff format. Let the team with the best record play the team with the worst record, not automatically the wild card. [/quote:9b6b7f8716]Agreed. And while at it make both rounds 7 games and more like real life with travel days during series.

Assuming the number of ATG teams will continue to grow, I'd like to ask for full customization of the player pool for private leagues.

You want to limit the pool by era? Select a button in setting up the league and, voila, you can only draft players from the American League... or the 60s and 70s... or whatever broad strokes theme leagues might fall into.

One team I would love to see in the new set---
1973 Atlanta Braves

Three 40+ HR hitters
Aaron hits 40 HRs in less than 415 ABs
Davey Johnson hits 43
Darrel Evans hits 41
Ralph Garr hits .299 and a ton of triples

Buzz Capra--won the ERA title, 2.28,no hits or walks against righties on his card
Phil Niekro: 21-13 2.38, killer card

It appears neither of these will happen but:

1. In my opinion more is not necessarily better. Not sure that more teams is the best route unless there is the cusomization option zippy suggested. While we now can limit the pool, it becomes a real pain in the a$$ trying to remember wjho is or is not available when making in season moves.

2. I would like to see an entirely new set of cards. It would be awesome to have 100% new cards. We could have many of the same players, just different years. Talk about kids in a candy store. Let us all learn again.

There's a delicate balance TSN must strike between the die hard fanatics and people just getting into the game. The more complexity they add, the more likely they are to alienate newbies. I would not expect very many new manager options, if any.

As has already been said, they can only provide what the CDROM provides. The roll outcomes can easily be displayed at the end of the boxscore (I believe these are the PAC files). The best thing they could do would be to provide more information on what the settings really mean. For instance, what are the minimum steal percentages if I choose Conservative as opposed to Normal?

The things that TSN really control are the front-end web experience, player salaries, salary cap, and teams/players included in the set. I'm not a big fan of the '69 front-end. I hope that's not the way ATG moves. Variable salaries based on player's usage would make things very interesting. I've given up playing anything above $80M leagues; more salary cap choices aren't that appealing to me. I like the idea of new players, no doubt. If the "team" approach is kept, I wish that they would add a team or two of ringers--the best of the rest a la Hack's list (I would add Ed Walsh).

I'm actually in total agreement with MBW last statement. I'd really prefer to see an entire new set. Pick 50 [b:2dc8ad73be][u:2dc8ad73be]new [/u:2dc8ad73be][/b:2dc8ad73be]teams, let's not re-hash anymore.

And before you get too far ahead, let's see what changes come with the 06 game (only a month away) then see what more needs to be done.
