Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Postby IM Bacchus » Sat Feb 11, 2006 10:53 pm

The really crazy thing about TSN's lack of support for "mystery card" Strat is the fact that TSN has a virtual exclusive on this format. You cannot go to the Strat-O-Matic website and buy the game. You cannot recreate the game by using either multiple seasons of cards or disks. If you want to play "mystery card" Strat, then you have to pay TSN for the privilage. Combine that with the fact that the game IS NEVER THE SAME TWICE, therefore never gets old. From a business perspective, TSN ought to be ploughing recources into this game. I just don't get it.

Maybe that has something to do with the lack of further development? TSN might be concerned with ailienating Strat-O-Matic?

On a totally irrelevant note to the theme but not to the title, the guy who inpsired the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld is opening up an outlet in Toronto.

Hal Richman of Strat-O-Matic developed the mystery card format with the folks at TSN. I'm not suggesting that Strat won't ever offer the game on disc as well, simply that they have not done so. Truth be told, I don't see this as a TSN problem exclusively, as Hal and the gang at Strat-O-Matic are the ones who would design any new versions, ie Back to the 70's. So TSN and Strat should be working together to promote and advance this game. In all do respect to the three people playing FantaSim, TSN should have pulled the plug on that failed experiment 6 months ago and used those recourses toward advancing the mystery card.

Mystery Cards

Postby honestiago1 » Mon Feb 13, 2006 3:54 pm

I'd like to have the option of plunking down 1-2M to get a reveal of a card. This might sput managers to gamble a bit more with low-priced folks, bank a little dough for some reveals, then add-drop based on some of the reveals. Maybe a limited number of reveals during a season (say 3). The reveal would be visible only to that manager, and could only occur at certain points in the season. Then, if trades were being offered, you'd have to determine if the manager is on the up-and-up about the year. I'm quite sure, however, that is impossible. Nor is it even necessary.

How about this: EVERY player has one poor year among his 5 (including guys like Rocket). This makes EVERY bid a gamble in some way (though less of a gamble among the big guns).

Hey Hey Bernie

Ok here is a five minute song to Bernie to help with the 80's cause. No, it is not 5 minutes long, but written and recorded in like... five minutes.

That is FREAKING HILARIOUS! If that doesn't put us in the driver's seat for changes, I don't know what will! Great job Yountfan!

By the way, I'm guessing that was Sean, Penngray, and Jimmy C on background vocals?.... :D

Sykes, put it on the pod and get it one the satilite radio. We need to bust this 80's movement wide open. Time to call out my buddies in the Michigan Militias
