Mauer strategy

Mauer strategy

Postby bkoron » Sat Sep 10, 2005 6:11 pm

OK, lemme see if I got this right.

If I have Mauer and another catcher at DH, and those are the only two catchers on my team, then if one of them gets hurt, the other one won't get hurt?

So the DH/C should be pretty good. Is it better that he's injury-prone?

Saw it and thanks. Is there a better way to set up a team with Mauer on it?

I suppose it depends on 2 things:

a) which ballpark he'll call home, and
b) what types of opposing pitchers will you be seeing within your division.

Wrigley Example:

Mauer/Valentin...I see almost exclusive RHP, so I live with Valentin being a zero against LHP...but he's a capable backup when Mauer is injured.

Shea Example:

Mauer/Molina might be a good platoon even if slightly expensive.

I don't think that I'd ever take a chance on a Mauer/Nevin platoon.

No one else likes Mauer and Cota? You get the max usage out of their 6 inj...

Incase you didnt go to the old boards to check in on this, you missed my suggestion:

Mauer at C by himself, with INGE at 3b to come in for Mauer when injured. Then carry a GOOD B/U 3b, I suggested just for the HRs, Leone, BK likes Youkilis, either way, its around 9 million $'s to cover 2 positions, and 3 roster spots. Which, is actually perty good.....

I'm in a theme league right now where your team has to be based on current and former plaers from one franchise. I have the Twins.

I am starting Mauer at catcher and Lecroy at firstbase. Lecroy is injury-prone and is my only backup catcher, so I think this should work out well. I'm pretty proud of this combination, considering my theme league constraints. We'll see how it goes.

I think the thought process with Mauer is..

A) need a platoon to hit lefties
B) need a substitute for when he is injured.

I have only been able to get him once, and platooned him with piazza in Shea. I have also seen J.Molina used alot with him. The problem with Cota is he is also strong vs righties and poor vs lefties, so which one do you play?? Mauer, used in a platoon, will be lights out however......

mtarbell,

I think the strategy is:

A) Carry only two catchers - Mauer and another injury-prone catcher
B) Play both Mauer and the other catcher in your lineup [i:4da4480235]every day[/i:4da4480235].

Mauer should get more at-bats than expected, because Mauer will [i:4da4480235]never[/i:4da4480235] get injured when catcher #2 is injured . :o
