Let's assume it is just a glitch in HAL's system. You can come up with different theories but the most reasonable answer is "glitch".
In 1987, Stubbs did hit from the right side in a game that was a blowout in which the opposing pitcher was an outfielder during the 9th inning. Does that mean his year is 1987? Maybe, but HAL is just not that smart and computers lack creativity. Many hitters switched sides for fun during their careers. Even Cardinals Lefty Tudor batted the other way against the Phillies Don Carmen in 1988.
Bottom line, it is a glitch and we have certainly seen enough of them in the 80s.
