Pedro finally beaten

Postby ArtemusRex » Mon Nov 03, 2008 3:05 am

Well it had to happen sometime. Pedro Martinez suffered his first loss of the season tonight. Congrats to the Blackmiths. That was on game 62 which is only 19 games from the mid season which is usually about a week before the All Star Break. You could say then that Pedro didn't lose until Memorial Day. Thats pretty remarkable. 12-1 with one hundred games to play.

Come on guys. Don't let me and JKolak dominate this board. I plan on chiming in even when my 2002 and 2003 squads will hit the skids. It would be good to hear from you.

In the 2002 league, I plan to crush the cider out of everyone's Adam's apple. I have the dynamic steroids duo of Barry and Sammy back for act two.

I am a cooked goose in 02. For some reason every team I have tried in 02 and 06 looks like its done in Chinese (which I do not read or speak) Dont know what it is but I feel like a rookie in those two seasons. Now my mighty Spoonbills may be getting crushed but at least I knew what I was doing when I put that team together. Peter Gammons even picked me to finish first in the central. Of course the Detroit Tigers were picked number one as well. JKolak Is there any chance that you work for SI and I have been Cover cursed?

I should have stayed in the public leagues and beat up on the rookies.s and beat up on the rookies

After a awful start I'm not done yet but 2001 has never been good to me.

seven games out of a playoff spot so there's always hope

2002 who knows

this is good

You're probably right about that Joe.

Trouble is, I knew 10 minutes after the draft had run that my team would be average at best. I suppose I could've made the move for Bonds though, and I give JKolak all due credit in finding a way to make room for his salary. What is disconcerting is the fact that his Braves are playing .640% ball right now and Bonds hasn't even begun to light it up yet.

The question bouncing around my head right now is whether Joe and Alexx will build insurmountable leads by the time this league is done. Right now one of those guys is likely to pull in 120+ points for this league, while the other division winner and wild-card team will probably be in the 90+ range. That's a 30 point or so lead over the next 2 best teams in the league.... likely much more over the also-rans.

Now if this was a pinnochle game, the rest of us would be switching to "cut-throat" mode, but that's probably against the spirit of this tourney. Hopefully the idea of pairing the leaders in the same division will help to keep things interesting, as it would be cool if by the time we reach the final season (2006) there was still a mathematical chance for most to come out on top.

only partial season so far

Postby bomberny50 » Wed Nov 05, 2008 1:48 pm

Ony a partial season has been played, so it certainly is not over. Of course i would like to salvage at least a 500 season in 2001, but as of right now anything can happen, and as we all know in the playoffs the best team(s) sometimes don't win

Certainly no one shuld give up at lease until the 2004 season

Standings after 81 games in 2001 game

Postby ArtemusRex » Sun Nov 09, 2008 1:23 am

Standings: OLD LEAGUES GAMES

EAST W L PCT GB HOME ROAD RS RA Trade
Richmond Braves XX 52 29 .642 - 19-17 33-12 581 457 Offer Trade
Birmingham Blacksmiths 39 42 .481 13.0 19-20 20-22 552 542 Offer Trade
Pauli Ball 36 45 .444 16.0 14-16 22-29 391 437 Offer Trade
Put-in-Bay Lakers 36 45 .444 16.0 15-18 21-27 366 439 Offer Trade

CENTRAL W L PCT GB HOME ROAD RS RA Trade
Valley Falls Big Red 42 39 .519 - 21-24 21-15 492 456 Offer Trade
P Town Punks III 41 40 .506 1.0 24-12 17-28 453 436 Offer Trade
Albany Firebirds 34 47 .420 8.0 19-23 15-24 427 504 Offer Trade
School Lake Spoonbills 33 48 .407 9.0 16-23 17-25 514 579 Offer Trade

WEST W L PCT GB HOME ROAD RS RA Trade
East Coast Yankees 57 24 .704 - 34-14 23-10 478 338 View Team
Springfield Jokers 46 35 .568 11.0 28-20 18-15 478 481 Offer Trade
CALIF ANGELS 36 45 .444 21.0 20-25 16-20 370 399 Offer Trade
Thunder Bay Thunder Wolves 34 47 .420 23.0 19-26 15-21 387 421 Offer Trade

Midway through we can see somethings panning out. 2 weeks ago when we were loading the 2002 divisions, the Blacksmiths and Angels were all set in the East. Since then, the Jokers have rocketed past the Angels into second in the West while both the Angels and the Blacksmiths are now under .500 . Still a ways to go and I'm sure my team will somehow fail to reach 100 wins. If I do it will be a first. My ERA has already been inching upwards towards 4.00 but still tops the league. Fassaro leads in Saves with 29 as of last night.

Mid-season assessment

Postby ArtemusRex » Sun Nov 09, 2008 1:40 am

Check out this cyber blurb that I received from one of the boxscores from Game 78, "Tino Martinez went deep and Roy Halladay pitched 8 strong innings as the very
talented East Coast Yankees..."

I honestly have never seen such hyperbole out of the Hal-bot. I know I'm soon set for a losing streak but damn its good to hear it. Especially when this team is designed on balance rather than trying to take advantage of a stadium's freakish dimensions. I have hitting for power and batting average, speed, and pitching. None is particularly the best in those areas but do well enough in conjuntion to make them formitable.

Now I have to start worrying for the forthcoming blood bath I'll face in 2002 since that is only the second team I've ever fielded in that card set.
