GOLD RUSH 14, 200 mil, somdraft, dh, waiver

Postby Proverbial Psalms » Mon Nov 10, 2008 1:16 pm

Hey all... just wanted to apologize for the two plus hour delay this morning with my pick...

I am at work, and our automated system tried to push a Windows Service Pack update to my machine... which resulted in two trouble tickets and 3 hours without my computer

Although my pick was still within my 3 hour clock... I very much know how frustrating such a draft delay can be... and so please accept my apology... just know that it was not me being asleep at the controls, but a true technical glitch.

We're back in business now :)

I'm sorry if I sound a little torqued here. I'm sure it will read much more angry than I am, but I have to (once again) get this off my chest.

This is exactly why I want to say for the record that I don't like this method of picking ballparks. We're in round [b:83ecee2b49][i:83ecee2b49][u:83ecee2b49]NINE[/u:83ecee2b49][/i:83ecee2b49][/b:83ecee2b49][i:83ecee2b49][u:83ecee2b49][/u:83ecee2b49][/i:83ecee2b49] and we've got two picks in the books. My divisional opponents already know where I'm playing and can build their teams accordingly (assuming I even pose a threat to them, which is clearly up for debate...) and I have no idea how my division is looking. It puts me at a distinct disadvantage. One can not look at this system and find a way to say that it provides parity for the league. It just doesn't work. This is not a threat or a "I'm taking my ball and going home" thing, but everytime this happens it makes me think twice about coming back next season.

In an effort to allow ballpark picks to (begin to) catch up, I'm going to turn my proxies off. Apologies in advance. I won't hold us up anywhere near the three hour mark, but this needs to get fixed.

My $.02. My soapbox and I will be leaving now.

I agree with making the ballpark selection a part of the live-draft... i.e. pick it within the live draft site, whenever you want, but it would be made like any other pick.

Of course, that is for future drafts, not this one.

For this draft, to keep things moving, can we not at least enforce the 3 hour clock for ballparks as well? I wouldn't think the ballpark round should be unclocked, as that only adds to the delay and disincents anyone from delaying selection.

Stadiums, stadiums, stadiums

Postby dspeters5 » Mon Nov 10, 2008 4:23 pm

Ballparks, ballparks, ballparks, such an interesting subject. Finally, somdraft has fixed the stadium selection process. It has not been available until a very short time ago. I will gladly put stadiums into the next draft.

Pete, hang in there! It is very clear who has a one sided lineup as we speak. Who has a smallball team, etc. Check the draft summary. We are way beyond the point of altering our lineups. ATG4 has so few options when it comes to platoons, even the pitcher who is strong to the opposite side is so minimal. It is very hard to have a roster with every situation covered. There just arent enough of those good players anymore. Where is ATG 3.2?????

I have been hamstrung by somdraft site, these past few drafts. Maybe we can poll managers. Some guys want a hard order. Some guys want to pick anytime anywhere. We will work this out.

You are also dealing with a laid back commish, who thinks there are soooooo many stadiums, that you can get just about anything you want anytime anyday. Just exposing my small mind, or big empty mind, right now.

For the most part, I agree. But there are some parks that fit a tidy niche of teams. For me, that's not the issue. It's the fact that I'm playing poker with a bunch of guys and you and I are the only ones showing our cards.

I like your idea, Bill, but the more I think about it, the more I think that it also rewards those who don't pick their team. Hypothetically, if I wait and pick last, I'll be able to see every specific park in my division. Skip that. The whole [i:85b04c41c0]league[/i:85b04c41c0]. Why pick now when you could wait and pick one that gives you a more strategic advantage in your division?
