ATG IV 16 event Franchise League

Majc... I realize that seeing who someone protects may impact who you select as time goes on in the first five rounds... but would it make much of a difference if we just posted all 5 players we are protecting and then proceeded with a 5 round live draft? Could even post 4 and then have a one round draft of our own players. Sure would save alot of time.

Great idea.. very similar to what I had in mind on my turn.

Right you are, guys. The same thing struck me as I was heading home from the office, where I made my previous post. How about this (with the change posted in boldface...)

Divisions to be established by daily lottery drawing and ranking from lowest to highest number. If your state, like mine, has two daily drawings, we'll use the evening number. As done previously, divisions will be established by the 1, 4, 7, 10 East, 2, 5, 8, 11 Central and 3, 6, 9, 12 West format.

[b:69b44f8bc7]The draft: An eight-round serpentine pre-draft in this chat in numerical draft order, i.e. 1, 2, 3, etc. In the first round, we'll designate two players carded to our roster. In rounds two, three and four, we'll select ONE player who donned your uniform, but is not carded to your team. In round five, we'll designate two more franchise players carded to our team rosters. The draft will conclude with three more rounds, once again selecting anyone who ever played for our team.[/b:69b44f8bc7]

This change will basically achieve my original thought of an earlier access to more players and, as a result, increase the possibility of trades.

After the 10-round pre-draft, fill out your rosters with any player who played for your team. [b:69b44f8bc7]WARNING: This will result in duplicate selections and computer-generated non-eligible players assigned to your roster. Be kind to your playmates, and either drop the offending players expeditiously or offer to trade them to teams they can play for. [/b:69b44f8bc7]

I realize that the actual draft under this set-up would be better with a frenzy. However, I genuinely wouldn't mind a delay in the launch of this league because of excessive work and time demands created by the holiday season. Good luck to one and all.

This is a very creative idea. I like it! How will things work after the draft? Can we trade with others or will it be like the other events where you have to be trading guys who played for both franchises?

[quote:774e66c9f8="jpgavin"]This is a 16 season league. Each of the 12 managers gets to manage each of the original 16 franchises once (see the list below). Of course after 16 seasons things might get a little redundant. So we'll change things around from season to season. Here are the basics:

[b:774e66c9f8]For the first season each franchise will only have access to the players carded to their team. [/b:774e66c9f8]This is to let eveyone get acclimated to the theme.

For each subsequent season:

1. A manager can use any player that ever had an at bat or pitched an inning for their franchise. (The Braves can use Babe Ruth etc...) Baseballreference.com is a great resource if you need to check what teams a player played for. I've broken down the players valued over $8 mil for each team and I'll e-mail that list to each manager. You're on your own for the rest :P

2. Each manager will get to set the salary cap, waiver rule and DH rule for one of the 16 seasons. Salary caps can be 60, 80, 100 or 125 mil. So there's a chance you'll be trying to put together a $125 Twins team or a $60 mil Yankees team... It's the luck of the draw.

3. Each manager will get to decide on live draft versus autodraft (we will limit live drafts to a maximum of 6 rounds) once and will be able to set a franchise related rule for that season. This will be a different season than the one you set the salary cap for. Examples might be:
Each team can claim 1 franchise player up front as long as the player played more than half his career for the franchise. (The Yankees can protect Ruth from the Red Sox and Braves.)

-or-

You can't use a player that had fewer than 600 AB's for your franchise.
You can get creative, but try to be reasonable. The rule will be set after the salary cap etc. has been given.

4. For the 3 other seasons, we'll decide all of the rules by vote.

5. For every season, ballparks must have been used by your franchise at some point.[/b][/quote:774e66c9f8]

This is the first post from the thread in which we signed up for this league. In the 3rd paragraph we limited the number of rounds for a live draft to 6. This limitation was put in by request because of concerns about time constraints. With the most liberal interpretation of this rule, we have 6 rounds of "drafting" here and two points at which we protect players. I think this is as far as we can reasonably push the envelope on this rule. To keep in the spirit of the draft rule, I'd encourage everyone to declare the two players they're protecting in "rounds" 1 and 4 quickly and I don't think we should wait to follow the draft order.

majicmg, in rounds 2,3,4 and 6,7,8 can we draft players carded to our franchise? or just players who played for our franchise at some point, but are carded to a different franchise?

Are the players we designate in rounds 1 and 5 protected in the sense that no other team can claim them if we drop them? Can we trade them?
