Just to catch this before it becomes an issue....

If round 5 is a "protect" round, can we assume that round 6 is in inverse order of round 4? That way team getting number 1 overall "steal" selection would have the top pick in 4 of 6 rounds if we don't inverse at rond 6.

For simplicity sake, perhaps we could just call it a 6 round draft with posting of protected players before round 1 and again after round 3.

Yes, Novie. That was my intent, and I'm glad that someone had the foresight to raise the issue.

[b:2182d35248]To simplify everything, we'll have one round where we protect two players in our team gene pool, then three rounds of serpentine draft in which all players who donned a uniform for your team are eligible.

That round will be followed by another two-player protection list and then three more serpentine rounds of any eligible player, beginning in reverse order of the last competed serpentine round in the initial go-round.[/b:2182d35248]

To one and all: Sorry for making this so complicated. No sour grapes here, because I am in it for the long haul. But after two fairly complete seasons with the player-thin O's and bottom-feeding Tigers, I've been attempting to achieve a design that would help weaker franchises via the draft.
