Injuries - What is normal? Am I on pace to set a record?

We are only 1/3 of the way into the season and my team is well over 100 games missed due to injuries. Is this higher than average? Does HAL simply not like my players?

At one point in the season, I had 5 players on IR and I had ZERO subs for hitting/running. Can I expect my injuries to "normalize" as the season progresses? I.E. expect less than what I've had so far.

I understand the basics when it comes to how many games a player miss in relation to the number of plate appearances as well as his injury factor but this seems out of the ordinary. :shock:

Once a league has completed play, you can see the injury log for all teams by doing the following:

Front Office >>> Expanded League Standings (located at the bottom of Final Division Standings) >>> Your League >>> Injuries

I just took a quick look at 3 teams in my previous leagues that had the most injuries and added up the games missed. 180, 182, 225. All 3 teams had 3-5 players with injury rolls between 2-5. If you have 100 already I would say you are on the high end of the distribution. Are you playing with injury guys?

What kind of luck you've had with injuries in the future is independent of any kind of luck (good or bad) that you've had with injuries so far. You won't catch any breaks just because you've had more than your share.

On average, your results will normalize a little bit. In other words, if you have average luck with injuries from this point forward your overall average will improve somewhat. But there are no guarantees. Your luck my suck the rest of the year!

Can you post a link to the team in question. I am interested in how many injury risk guys you have. Injury risk guys are guys whose injuries fall on a number other than a 2 or a 12 on their Strat card. Also as I think someone mentioned before, if they have over 600 Plate appearances they can only miss 3 games at a time. And if they have over 680 plate appearances they can only miss the remainder of the that game. Good luck the rest of the way!

Even players that are 1's are subject to 15 game injuries. The only exceptions are the ones with 600 plate appearances.

That is very injury prone team! I usually have, at most, four or five guys that have a 2 or greater injury rating; certainly not eight!!

For most leagues, my general rule of thumb is that if a position player is over $5M, he better be really good if he doesn't have >= 600 PAs. Some guys I've used like that in 2007 are Chipper Jones, Dustin Pedroia, Jeff Keppinger, and Corey Hart. I had Jim Thome and Mark Teixeira briefly, but they didn't last. Most catchers are a 2, so there's not much you can do about that, but I usually shy away from the really expensive, non-600 PA catchers, even if they are studs (e.g. Jorge Posada).

In 100M leagues you may be able to risk taking the really high risk, high reward guys (2007: Josh Hamilton, Milton Bradley, Joe Mauer, Moises Alou), but probably not more than one of them. I forget who posted it earlier, but someone on here talked about looking at how much money you put on the field each night (in the context of platoons), and this principle applies to injury prone guys. You don't want $20-30M of injured hitters sitting on your bench every night

There are quite a few guys on your squad I would ditch. Also, you have guys on your team that are getting way more at-bats than they deserve: Dave Ross, Craig Counsell, Pete Orr, Steve Finley. These guys are all scrubs who should pretty much never play. Unless he's hurt, Taveras should be playing both ways, and so should Willits.

Carlos Pena - too expensive for a guy that's got less than 600 PAs and not in a HR park. I recommend someone like Scott Hatteberg for a cheap option, and Todd Helton for a more expensive one.

Dave Ross and/or Joe Mauer - if you're going with Mauer, you need a suitable backup because Mauer will miss significant time.

Ian Kinsler - terrible fit for your park, bad defense, too unbalanced, injury risk. Chase Utley would be perfect, but I'll bet he's taken. I'd look for Kelly Johnson, Brian Roberts, or Mark DeRosa.

Aki Iwamura - I've had awful luck with him, probably because he's way overpriced. Drop him immediately for just about anybody else :lol:

Chris Duncan - Another terrible fit for your park. He's got a lot of #s and you don't really play in a HR park. Find someone with natural homeruns or a good high average hitter. I recommend someone like Tike Redman. He and Reed Johnson would be a good platoon, though, you need to have a third option for when either gets hurt. If he's available, go for Carl Crawford.

Ryan Doumit - A third bad fit for PNC, even though it's his home park. See above for reasoning. I'd go after Hunter Pence or Skip Schumaker.


I don't know who's available through FA, so if you can't get any of these guys there, try putting on your Trader Jack hat. The pitching staff actually looks OK, even though I don't really like mixing 4 and 5 day starters. Wang isn't a good fit for your park, so he could be good trade bait. Maybe another lefty starter would help??

Your team is actually doing well right now, which is surprising, but it wouldn't surprise me if you had a tremendous fall from grace by the end of the season if you kept the status quo.
