Franchise League=players that have played for that franchise[/quote:b350083d38]

OK, so Pjatcfy, Marge, Buster, Cubs48, andycummings, and I have all weighed in against any rule that would allow a manager to trade for a player that had never played for his/her franchise. One more and we're done.

[quote:fab12fe8f5="AeroDave10"][quote:fab12fe8f5="jpgavin"]Can anyone explain why Eddie Collins costs more the $1.5 mil more than Joe Morgan? Am I missing something here?[/quote:fab12fe8f5]

50 point advantage in BA, 15 point advantage in OBP, slightly better steal rating, better bunt rating, a few less errors. Those are the advantages I see.[/quote:fab12fe8f5]

Agreed, but Morgans OPS is 20+ points higher and he hit 20 more HR's. I don't know that Morgan's definately better (it's probably park dependent) but I think a $1.5 mil difference seems off. I do think you're right Dave that this was based on the marked difference in BA. I bring it up because in another league I received multiple trade offers each with me giving up Morgan and getting Collins and I just couldn't justify adding so much salary for such a comprable player.

Season 1

Postby jpgavin » Sat Nov 22, 2008 11:29 am

We have our first four playoff teams, White Sox, Braves, Dodgers and Giants.

1st MVP - Willie Mays hitting .326 with 67 HR and 162 RBI, leading the league in HR and RBI

1st Cy Young - Phil Niekro 27-11 with a 3.00 ERA, leading the league in wins

Batting champ - Ted Williams .372

ERA leader - Don McMahon 1.42 (Niekro's 3.00 was the best among SP)

Strikout leader - Dazzy Vance 354

There were 16 twenty game winners

Eddie Collins and Eric Davis each stole 67 bases.

Joe Morgan stole only 23 bases (and I had him set to steal more), so maybe the 1.5 mil salary difference is justified. Collins out hit Morgan .334 to .247, lead in OBP .436 to .373, and had more than a 100 point lead in OPS .864 to .753. Both drew over 100 BB.

My wholehearted congratulations to you folks who are playoff-bound. Hopefully, all of your teams will remain healthy to the end.

And while I'm at it, my sincere apology to everyone for the stick I created regarding trades. You're right, and I'm wrong. In this league format, trading players to franchises they never played for simply doesn't work.

As I related to AeroDave in a PM, the pre-holiday crush that affects the publishing industry has come down on me like a ton of brinks. Without going into detail, I've been overwhelmed at the office for the past three weeks without any sign of let-up in the near future. And problems have been compounded by the recent death of my father at age 91.

As a result, I've really had to do everything on the fly as far as SOM is concerned, and it's affected my ability to monitor this board, answer your questions promptly and make proper decisions when I've had to.

Once again, I'm sorry if this has caused any furor and negatively impacted anyone's experience playing these games. That would never be my intent.

The best to one and all for the upcoming holiday.

Marty
