We'll use this thread to keep and update the rules for the theme. I'll post standings here over the course of the 16 seasons to rank the managers and franchises and we can add commentaries on the different seasons.

This is a 16 season league. Each of the 12 managers gets to manage each of the original 16 franchises once (see the list below). Of course after 16 seasons things might get a little redundant. So we'll change things around from season to season. Here are the basics:

For the first season each franchise will only have access to the players carded to their team. This is to let eveyone get acclimated to the theme.

For each subsequent season:

1. A manager can use any player that ever had an at bat or pitched an inning for their franchise. (The Braves can use Babe Ruth etc...) Baseballreference.com is a great resource if you need to check what teams a player played for. I've broken down the players valued over $8 mil for each team and I'll e-mail that list to each manager. You're on your own for the rest

2. Each manager will get to set the salary cap, waiver rule and DH rule for one of the 16 seasons. Salary caps can be 60, 80, 100 or 125 mil. So there's a chance you'll be trying to put together a $125 Twins team or a $60 mil Yankees team... It's the luck of the draw.

3. Each manager will get to decide on live draft versus autodraft (we will limit live drafts to a maximum of 6 rounds) once and will be able to set a franchise related rule for that season. This will be a different season than the one you set the salary cap for. Examples might be:
Each team can claim 1 franchise player up front as long as the player played more than half his career for the franchise. (The Yankees can protect Ruth from the Red Sox and Braves.)

You can't use a player that had fewer than 600 AB's for your franchise.
You can get creative, but try to be reasonable. The rule will be set after the salary cap etc. has been given.

4. For the 3 other seasons, we'll decide all of the rules by vote.

5. For every season, ballparks must have been used by your franchise at some point.

[b:8257d2c2cd]Penalty for using a player not eligible for your franchise:[/b:8257d2c2cd]

1st offense - Simply drop the offending player IMMEDIATELY upon discovery, replace him on the roster and use a benchwarmer valued at under $1 million in his place for the same number of games the ringer played.

2nd offense - Follow the same procedure as in offense No. 1, while adding an additional financial penalty equal to the offending player's salary. The owner will regain the cash when the games-played penalty expires.

3rd offense - Follow the same procedure as in offense No. 2, but double the financial penalty.

1. The manager who sets the cap / DH / waiver format can change his/her mind UNTIL the second manager has set the rule and divisions.

2. The manager who sets the rule / divisions can modify the rule / divisions up to the point when the first action on the rules has been taken. (First draft choice made, first franchise player protected etc...)

If the divisions were to be set by pick 3 numbers, once those numbers were run the divisions AND the rule could no longer be changed.
- or -
If the rule leads straight to the autodraft, once the first manager has entered the league the rule AND divisions can no longer be changed.

Of course, if the rule is incomplete or has an obvious flaw in its logic, then it must be completed or amended. The manager who set the rule for that season will be responsible for completing or amending the rule.

Every player you use in this league, across all 16 seasons, must have played for your franchise for some part of his career (be it 1 AB or 1/3 IP). You cannot carry a player that never appeared with your franchise. You cannot draft, claim on waivers, trade for, or pick up as a free agent a player that never appeared with your franchise.

We'll use the same scoring system as Barnstormers for the rankings here. One point for each regular season win, five points for making the playoffs, five points for making the finals, and ten points for a championship.

[b:d3b8e07d86]Mays' walk-off homer lifts Giants over Braves[/b:d3b8e07d86]

Willie Mays showed why he was voted league MVP, hitting a 2-run bomb, his second of the game, in the bottom of the 10th to give the Giants a 1 game to none lead in their division series against the Braves. Mays hit Don McMahon's 1-0 offering into the left-center field seats with Frankie Frisch aboard to give the Giants a 6-4 victory.

McMahon (0-1), the regular season ERA leader, had a tough outing, failing to hold the lead twice before giving up Mays' game-ending blast. McMahon came on in the bottom of the 8th, taking over for Braves' starter Warren Spahn with Frisch on 1st, George Davis on 3rd, one out and the Braves clinging to a 2-1 lead. Frisch stole second on McMahon's very first pitch, and the Fordam Flash's aggressive base running seemed to rattle the Braves' reliever. He walked Felipe Alou on four pitches to load the bases for Mays. After two more pitches out of the zone, he finally threw a strike which Mays promptly lined to left for a 2 run single and a Giant lead. McMahon was then able to strike out Willie McCovey and get Chief Meyers to tap back to the mound to end the inning.

In the top of the 9th Eddie Mathews seemed to get McMahon off the hook with a 2 run blast off Gary Lavelle to put the Braves back on top 4-3. But Freddie Linstrom had some heroics of his own in the home half of the inning, hitting a solo shot to send the game into extra frames.

Mays had given the Giants an early 1-0 lead with a solo homer leading off the fourth. Dale Murphy quickly tied the game with a solo shot of his own in the top of the fifth. Murphy homered again in the top of the 8th to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.

Scott Garrelts (1-0) went an inning and 2/3 for the win, as neither Spahn nor Giant starter Tim Keefe factored in the decision. In addition to his 3 hits, 2 home runs, and 5 RBI, Mays contributed with his glove, making a spectacular diving grab of a Walker Cooper drive into the left center field gap in the top of the second inning.

In game two of their division series, Henry Aaron had four hits including a two-run home run and drove in 3 to lead the Braves to a 9-4 victory over the Giants. Charley Radbourn (1-0) gave up 4 runs on 10 hits over 9 innings for the win. Joe McGinnity took the loss for the Giants, giving up 9 runs, all earned, in 6 2/3 lack luster innings.

The series is now tied 1-1 and moves to Braves Field tonight where Cy Young award winner Phil Niekro will take on Giants lefty Carl Hubbel in game 3.

At Comiskey park, Don Drysdale was dominant in game one of the division series between the Dodgers and the White Sox, thowing a 3-hit complete game shut out to give the Dodgers a one game to none lead. Mike Piazza was the offensive hero for Brooklyn with 2 hits including a 2-run homer. Ed Walsh gave up 5 runs, 4 earned, while going 9 innings in the loss.

If the Comiskey fans were starved for offense after Don Drysdale's tremendous game one performance, they certainly got their fill in game two of the division series. The White Sox were 14 to 10 winners, taking the lead for good with a 6-run second inning.

All of the White Sox runs in the second scored with two out. Luke Appling got the scoring started with a two out RBI single. After an error and a hit batter loaded the bases, Dazzy Vance walked Joe Jackson to bring in the second run of the inning. Having trouble with his control, Vance caught too much of the plate with a high fastball to Dick Allen who hit a rocket over Duke Snider's head in center for a bases clearing triple. Clarence Mitchell relieved Vance (0-1), but had control problems of his own, uncorking a wild pitch to bring home the final run of the inning.

Ted Lyons (1-0) got the win for the White Sox despite giving up 10 runs, 8 earned, in 6 2/3 innings. Hoyt Wilhelm got the final 2 outs for his first save of the post season. Mike Piazza hit 2 home runs in a losing effort for the Dodgers.

The series moves to Dodger Stadium for game 3 tonight, where legendary Dodger lefty Sandy Koufax will try to tame the White Sox offense against Red Faber, one of three White Sox pitchers to win 20 games this season.

The Dodgers jumped out to an early lead and Burt Hooten was good enough to give the Dodgers a 6-4 victory over the White Sox and a berth in the finals. The Dodgers take the division series 3 games to 1, their only loss coming in a game two slug fest at Comiskey. In game four they got to White Sox starter Joe Horlen (0-1) quickly, scoring 3 in the first on a Duke Snider two run homer and a Zack Wheat RBI single. Brooklyn added single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th, the last coming on Mike Piazza's fourth home run of the post season.

Hooten (1-0) was solid if not spectacular. He threw 104 pitches over 8 innings, allowing 3 runs on 10 hits and 2 walks. Brooklyn reliever Hank Behrman made things interesting in the ninth but managed to get the save. He walked Johnny Mostil and Ray Schalk to open the inning. One out later he gave up a single to Chicago's great short stop Luke Appling to load the bases. He then compounded his problems by kicking Nellie Fox's slow roller up the first base line, allowing Mostil to score. He was finally able to settle down, throwing a good hard sinker to a get a game ending 6-4-3 double play off the bat of Minnie Minoso.

The Dodgers breathed a collective sigh of relief before piling on Behrman at the pitcher's mound. Asked about the ninth inning scare, Snider said, "I looked over to the bullpen after Hank walked the first two and it looked like Ralph Branca was warming up. That seemed a little strange to me since he's not even on the post season roster. After Appling's hit, I looked over again and I swear I saw Calvin Schiraldi and Bob Stanley throwing, but I must have been mistaken."

After the game manager Walter Alston said, "It's great to win it in four so we can celebrate with our hometown fans." The advantage to avoiding a fifth game that Alston didn't mention? Dodger ace Don Drysdale, comming off a brilliant complete game shut out in game one of this series, is rested and waiting to start game one of the Championship.

Piazza was voted series MVP, hitting .353 with 4 homers and 9 RBI.

The Dodgers now await the winner of the Giants - Braves series. The decisive fifth game of that series will be played tonight at the Polo Grounds.

Sandy Koufax looked impressive in game three of the Dodgers division series against the White Sox, getting a complete game victory in the Dodgers 5 to 1 win. Koufax allowed 2 hits and an unearned run. He didn't walk a batter and struck out 7. The White Sox lone run came in the top of the third via a hit batter, a stolen base, a Maury Wills error and a run scoring double play ground out. Duke Snider's 3-run homer in the fifth salted away the win and a two games to one series lead for the Dodgers.

Billy Hamilton had a 2-out RBI double in the bottom of the 10th to give the Braves 6 - 5 walk-off win and a two games to one lead over the Giants in their division series. Hamilton had four hits on the day and Wally Berger contributed to the Braves offense with a three-run double in the bottom of the first. Don McMahon (1-1) got the win despite blowing his second save of the post season when he allowed the Giants to tie the game on a bases loaded walk with two out in the ninth. Dutch Henry (0-1) took the loss in relief, giving up 1 run in two innings of work.

The Giants were able to pull out a win with their backs against wall, beating the Braves 9 to 8 at Braves field and squaring their division series at 2 games a piece. Chief Meyers had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs for the Giants who jumped out to a 6 - 0 lead after 3 innings. The Braves battled back with 3 in the fifth and five in the six, taking an 8 - 6 advantage on Wally Berger's 3 run double. The bullpen couldn't hold the lead though, surrendering single runs in the 7th, 8th and 9th. The game winner scored on a Rabbit Maranville error with two outs and runners on 1st and 3rd.

Marv Grissom (1-0) got the win for the Giants and Cecil Upshaw (0-1) was the hard luck loser. Scott Garrelts came on with two on and two out in the ninth to record his first save of the post season. He needed only two pitches, getting Hank Aaron to ground to third for the final out.

The series returns to the Polo Grounds tonight for a game one rematch with Braves' lefty Warren Spahn facing 22 game winner Tim Keefe. The winner earns the right to meet the Dodgers in the League Championship Series.

Tim Keefe got a complete game victory, leading the Giants to a 6 - 1 win over the Braves in game 5 of their Division Series. Keefe allowed only one run on five hits and three walks.

The Giants' two-out four run rally in the bottom of the second provided Keefe with more than enough support. Orlando Cepeda homered off of Braves' starter Warren Spahn (0-1) to straight away center field to get things started for New York. Freddie Lindstrom then lined a solid single to left on the first pitch he saw. Short stop George Davis tripled to drive in Lindstrom and came around to score when Frank Demaree's hard ground ball got through Eddie Mathews at third. Frankie Frisch singled to keep the inning alive and Felipe Alou singled back through the box to bring in Demaree with the final run.

Frisch doubled in the fourth to drive in Demaree with the Giants' fifth run and homered leading off the eighth to complete the Giant scoring. Keefe was two outs away from a shut out when Braves catcher Walker Cooper homered to make it 6 - 1. That was all the Braves would get though, and two outs later the Giants were able to punch their ticket to the championship.

Frisch was named series MVP. In the series' five games the Fordam Flash hit .500 with 2 HR, 4 RBI, 7 runs scored and 4 stolen bases.
