Generating Runs/Preventing Runs: Hack vs Agee

Generating Runs/Preventing Runs: Hack vs Agee

Postby MtheB » Sat Feb 18, 2006 1:30 pm

Am in Yankee 27, 3 hitters parks in DIV, 9 hitters parks in League, currently before waivers, 15 Lefty starters in league, 3 in div.

Considering Hack Wilson vs T. Agee in CF

Will Hacks better power against righties, and higher BA and OBP, generate more runs than Agee---when you figure in Agee's much better range, arm, efactor?

Thoughts?

With 9 hitter's parks in the league, I think I'd go with Hack.

I don't have spreadsheets and formulas that I use to make my decisions, so take my opinion for what it's worth.

The theory I use is to attempt to assess if the defensive player can close the gap in terms of lost offensive production.

On average, the CF-X should occur 90 times in a season. Hack will give up hits 30% of the time, or 27 hits. That translates to approx. 38 obp points. Agee will have fewer errors and of course has a better arm. However, Wilson's slugging is far superior. I'd go with Hack unless you need the $4 in cash to upgrade other positions.

I guess Gorman's not available? That's the best solution.

Hack is better than Agee overall. However, for the money, it's a push. I don't care for Agee because of his low OBP.

Depends on the team mix; if you have enough sticks, use Agee. He's pretty dependable. But, if you need the hitting, Hack can whack.

I like Agee because he can help in CF and in RF if a trade or injury forces you to use him in RF.

As mentioned above, Gorman Thomas might give you a decent compromise between the two...
