Clarification of OPS and Platoons

Postby rosenthm » Thu Dec 04, 2008 3:50 pm

No, you do not actually divide the total in half for the OPS number. If you use an 800 OPS in platoon you can use another 800 OPS in another platoon and it will count as one. Or you can use two different 800 OPS players for one position. If you only have one OPS player that you platoon, that will count as one of your 4, if you don't use another in platoon.

If you use an 800 OPS player in platoon and 700 OPS player in the same platoon, you can count the 700 as the other half of your 800 player so you don't have to count the 700 player as one of your 3.

Sorry, I didn't mean to really screw anyone up and make it harder for you. I got the idea from reading about the 1000 OPS league that just started and wondered what it would be like to have a league without any of the 30+ 1000 OPS hitters. Didn't think of the rule to pick on any certain team or franchise and wanted to try something that hasn't been tried yet.

Looks like we can take our time putting together our teams since a few will be traveling and unavailable. If someone from the East can start the league that would be good.

I hate the OPS limitations

I really got the Yankees in the wrong season.. Marge' OPS rule takes Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, and DiMaggio out of playfor me... Oh well.. at least I am deep on total available players..

2cityfan, I can see how you'd be disappointed not having the really big guns when you have the Yankees, but you still have some pretty good choices compared to some franchises. Maris, Mattingly, Dickey et al and some pretty good pitching.

Does anyone but me think this will be an interesting league...without the 1000 OPS players?

It'll be a first for me, Marge, but it'll sure be interesting. I won't have McCovey or Ott, but Mays just snuck in under the line at .999. Yikes!

I'm definitely intrigued. This is what's great about a franchise league. There are so many different rules being thrown around.

But again, my team is going to be pitifull

Marge,

I saw that 1.000 OPS theme league and was intrigued too. Every rule is going to have a negative effect for some franchises - not enough access to high priced superstars or too much access so teams with less talent overall have a hard time competing. I think over 16 seasons each of us will get the short end of the stick a few times and get a competitive advantage because of the rules a few times.

Since we have a little bit of a wait to load season 5, maybe we can use the time to start thinking about a rule for season 10. That's the first of the 3 seasons we decide a rule by vote. This is how we'll do it the first time around:

From now until the end of the month, each manager can "nominate" one rule for season 10. Then we'll vote on the rules, everyone gets to vote for one rule, but you can't vote for the rule you suggested. (You don't have to suggest a rule if you don't want to, but I figure the more options the better.) After the first round of voting, we'll have a run off of the top two. Once we know the rule, then we'll vote on Salary Cap, DH rule and Waiver rule. Attach your name to your nomination so we know who suggested which rule.

Rule "nominations" for season 10:

1. Still trying to think of one...
