First timer questions

I just drafted a team in a 21 day trial league and have a couple questions.

I only have one second baseman whose injury rating is 1. Most likely he won't get injured in a 21 game season, but what happens if he does? Does a backup SS get moved over? with what defensive rating?

I'm confused about stealing. Ichiro has stealing (A) *2-5/- (19-13). The way I interpret this is that a dice roll of 2-5 is a good lead. Anything else (6-12) is not a good lead? What does the asterisk mean? Since there is no number after the "/", that means he doesn't get picked off? And I guess I comprehend the (19-13).

If no one else on your roster has a 2B rating then the computer manager (HAL) will select a player to use and he will be a 5e40 (or whatever the worst 2B rating is.

(A) *2-5/- (19-13)

The (A) is not used in the online game, only the numbers are significant. The * means that this player must be held on base by the fielder which makes that fielder 1 rating point worse than he normally is if he get an X fielding chance. The (19-13) means that if the runner gets a good lead then he is 1-19 on a steal to 2B plus or minus the pitcher's hold rating and the catcher's throwing rating of course. If he doesn't get a good lead he starts at 1-13 on a steal of 2B. The 2-5/- means that he gets a good lead on a roll of 2, 3, 4 or 5 which is rolled before the steal attempt. The number after the / would be a pickoff if it was rolled prior to the steal attempt. In this case Ichiro can't be picked off when trying to get a lead.

I wouldn't spend a lot on a backup 2b unless he can play other positions and you foresee him being used in certain situations.

Although he may be a 1 injury risk, if his real life plate appearances do not exceed 660, he could be at risk for injuries up to 15. Check the FAQ section for exact details.

**LM - You are correct. My only point to the above paragraph was to bring to light the 660 threshold. I wrote the message quickly and didn't remember the other cutoffs. Hence the reason for "check the FAQ section for exact details.

The original post thought that since his players were an injury risk "1" that they were low risk. I should have posted that their card risk was low but the length of time missed could be great.***

This is not accurate. If his real life plate appearances (calculated as AB + walks in this game) equals 600 or more then he cannot be injured for more than 3 games per injury occurance.
