Old League Games

Postby ArtemusRex » Mon Dec 15, 2008 6:10 pm

Well Game 6 was a disappointment to say the least. Pedro was pulled too early by Hal and the game went to the 12th inning after Fassero had a rare blown save. Lowe, who was gonna have a sneaky start in Game 7, was brought in for a third inning and took the loss. At least Lowe will be in the pen as normal. Hopefully Hal is smart enough to use Dave Williams as well. Riiiight. Great series JK. Both of us deserve it. Only one takes home the trophy. :!:

Grossman, I'm an equal opportunity player this season... I'll let anyone sweep me!

Best of 1 Artemus.....I figured that none of the games would be close. I did have a pretty decent record against Pedro in the playoffs. Yes, I loset a few. But I won a few too. Much better playoff record than regular season record against him.

Given the fact that I lost the very first 7 and deciding game 7 contests in 2001 before I reversed my fortunes, this victory was most satisfying. This is now the fourth straight game 7 my teams have won. The taste of those first 7 unlucky game number 7 is now diminshed.

Tough one Alexx! Although it took me until my 8th playoff appearance and 11th 2001 team before I won my first ring. On the other hand, I really feel for you! You've had 18 teams and no ring in 2001. Better StratOLuck on your next endeavor.

A tip of the cap to Artemus Rex for shoving my pre-season prediction up my rear end with the the best league record.

Let's see where 2002 brings us.

I set Ortiz to go games 2 and 6. Not sure what happened. In the end, it was Burkett in games 2 and 6 with Ortiz in games 3 and 7.

Alexx: One last piece of advice...next 2001 league, make sure I'm not in it. The tough part is you had to go a full 12 games in the playoffs just to fall one win short. As far as the drawing board is concerned, you drafted a real winner and showed me something with your team.

2001 is Complete - Standings After Round 1

Postby Coffeeholic » Tue Dec 16, 2008 5:50 pm

And hats off to [b:69ca4bfe86]JKolak[/b:69ca4bfe86] for bringing home the bacon! Reminds me a bit of the Olympic gymnastics competition from this past summer where the athletes needed to perform very strongly in the events in which they were favored in order to win the overall gold. No doubt he was the favorite heading into the first season, and he did everything needed to merit that status.

Additional Kudos to [b:69ca4bfe86]Artie Rex[/b:69ca4bfe86] for an outstanding season... and condolences for coming soooooo.... close to that first ring. Gonna keep trying? The 2001 season is so different from any of the other ones. Looks like you've got a pretty good grasp on it though, so a title should be coming your way soon. I'd take Frisky Scooter up on his advice to join a league that he's not in, except that that's impossible 'cuz he's in every one!

Here are the "Un-Official" standings after Round 1:

[b:69ca4bfe86]ArtemusRex[/b:69ca4bfe86] - 121 points (106 + 10 +5)
[b:69ca4bfe86]JKolak[/b:69ca4bfe86] - 116 points (96 + 10 + 5 + 5)
[b:69ca4bfe86]Coffee[/b:69ca4bfe86] - 102 points (92 + 10)
[b:69ca4bfe86]Ironwill[/b:69ca4bfe86] 94 points (89 + 5)
[b:69ca4bfe86]JDClark[/b:69ca4bfe86] - 83 points
[b:69ca4bfe86]Pushpin[/b:69ca4bfe86] - 82 points
[b:69ca4bfe86]Rzpernick[/b:69ca4bfe86] - 79 points
[b:69ca4bfe86]Poser[/b:69ca4bfe86] - 72 points
[b:69ca4bfe86]Firebirds[/b:69ca4bfe86] - 72 points
[b:69ca4bfe86]Grossman[/b:69ca4bfe86] - 70 points
[b:69ca4bfe86]Bomberny[/b:69ca4bfe86] - 68 points
[b:69ca4bfe86]McConvey[/b:69ca4bfe86] - 63 points

Will someone please double check this? If you see any discrepencies, let us know.

Can JKolak get docked points for bad prognostication. Since I did not end up in first my feelings were hurt. Can I hold him liable?

FIRST Spoonbills - Grossman

Stud relievers coupled with dud relievers is the way to win at Coors. The SP are your usually lineup of suspect wiffleball/slow pitch softball league pitchers. The bullpen is a magnificient work of art. It is one of the best I have ever seen in 2001. If HAL deploys these guys right...watch out. The offense is solid for Coors Field with a good well-balanced attack and deep starting lineup which should score more than its fair share of runs. If the cannon fodder, punching bag rotation gets yanked fast enough, the pen can hold and win games with the explosive offense behind it.

That point system is interesting. In my opinion, a playoff berth should be worth 10 points and the league championship 20 additional points. Artemus had a great season. However, any great season that falls short of a championship should not be awarded with more points than the team that won the championship.

On the other hand, I am a bit late on this and should have checked how this thing would be scored when it was first posted.
