ALIGNED COMBO FRANCHISE LEAGUE - FRANCHISES ANALYZED

Our historical single season sets

Postby CATom » Tue Feb 21, 2006 3:40 pm

am i lost? I thought we were drafting ALL 24 teams? What FA's are we worried about? I think there sould NOT be a free agent draft at all - just go with the two teams you pick - no FA's. I picked 11th in a botom feeders league - got the indians - and so far not doing terrible! If its something about the make up of the two teams then we should address that and not have FA's.

Wow... I completely forgot that there were only 24 teams!!!! Never mind all that other gibberish about drafting FA's.

Now, the mind set needs to change... I would say that the franchise players are yours alone to use until maybe 24 hrs before league starts... so you can make trades.

But, whatever is decided is fine w/ me... although I do think that there needs to be something to compensate those that get the choice of the last few teams. Perhaps a mini draft (1-2 rounds w/ no serpentine) of those unused players in reverse order of team draft prior to season beginning.... then any others left are fair game to all.

[b:8932e5b135]SO, to summarize some options...

1. After draft, all FA are available to everyone (waivers or frenzy)

2. Hold rights to your franchise players for a predetermined amount of time to make trades.

3. Hold a mini draft right after autodraft for those unused players.

4. Hold a mini draft day before or day of season start for any unused players... those on your roster (not made available for mini-draft are stuck to your team unless you trade them... prevents a hording mentality)[/b:8932e5b135]

Just my 02 cents

My original thought regarding a FA draft was based on the fact that no matter how much thought I put into the aligning of 2 Franchises there would be sets that simply would have an area of weakness while other sets would end up with 2 quality starters at the same position.

By having each manager hold only those players that he initially selected on the first draft weaker franchises could put together some decent players though not originally on their COMBO Franchise.

Upon reading some of the above messages I think our best approach would be to have a committee of 2 to 4 managers analyze the existing teams and make trades to help weaker sets, hopefully if we agree we can limit trades to players who have something in common with the set their traded to.

Lets here your thoughts and whether you wish to participate in the process.

Bob... I just spent a couple hours putting the teams/rosters together and what I found was this (not specific to which teams)

1. There are 2 teams that are STUDS! FUll lineups, SP and RP... will need very little help to fill any small holes.

2. There are 5-6 teams that are pretty complete and have a few duplicate positions that if trading is allowed, they can easily make competitive teams.

3. There are 3-4 teams that will need a savvy manager to make some moves to make them competitive.

4. There are 2 teams that are CLEARLY inferior to the rest... one team is absolutely in desperate shape... lack a lineup and things to trade with.

If you want to PM me, I will be happy to disclose my opinions on those 2 studs and one desperate team... may give you an idea of a minor pairing tweaking that can be done. If no changes are made, I HIGHLY suggest that some sort of FA draft be held with those choosing pairings last be at the top of for a couple rounds.

Problem is this... at 100M, there is little reason for any of these stronger teams to not use almost every expensive player... they can by and large still be under the cap.

There are 3 teams over 90M (none needing more than 1-2 more players) and they are using every expensive player they have!

I will be gone until late in the evening. Can you send me a PM with your opinions. If you want see if you could offer a switch of franchises. When I first started I had some other combos but changed aat the last minute.

This would be a perfect opportunity to just switch this to a 1/2 team draft. 4 rds by lotto, serpentine. Pick 2 pitching staffs and 2 hitting teams.

PM sent.

Building on Gene's post, I would even consider just a whole team draft and not pre-set combo's.... but I do like the 1/2 team concept!

the 1/2 team (2 pit & 2 hit) would be OK with me. As far as the pre-set combos why not just highest with lowest, 2nd with 2nd ect?

Balt & SD = 133.08
Minn & Clev = 122.75
Pitt & Mont = 119.05
NYM & Phil = 120.44
SF & ChicA = 120.06
Det & Cal = 119.41
Atl & Sea = 121.32
Cinn & KC = 121.02
StL & ChicN = 123.63
NYA & Hous = 121.72
Bos & Wash = 119.84
Oakl & LAD = 120.79

think these may work - allow trading & there would be no need for any FA's. I will do the pre-set team (either, or any) or the four 1/2 teams but i'm OUT if you do a two team draft (serpentine or any other way) :).

As in ANY draft the 10th, 11th and 12th picks will have bad choices - so hope for a good number ;).

For what its worth, I like G's concept of 2 hitting/2 pitching in a serpentine draft. Simple and easy. However, I'm in either way as long as the rules are defined before we jump in.

I like the original idea of just drafting a 2 team combo, nice and simple. If you guys change everything and make it too complicated I'm gonna have to drop out.
