9 Eastern is perfect for me as I work 12 hour shifts. If I miss out on bidding on a player that I really want, no big deal. We all miss out on players in the current draft system all the time, at least this way we have a shot of every player!

Also, on the idea that this is my league, I respectfully disagree. We will all be investing way too much time in this one, for any one person to make decisions that effect all of us. Let's stick with majority rules on all issues please. I am really hoping that this is such a success that we can do this or something very similar many times.

I have always found that once I have finished building my teams, the rest is anti-climatic. I anticipate that this will be as much fun as online strat can possibly provide!

9 PM eastern is a perfect time for me as well. Just so everyone knows, DOHowser is going to have a big advantage over the rest of us, as he auctions cattle twice a week.

I also totally agree with Bob on the idea of making this last past 1 season. Maybe we could make it some sort of a keeper league where instead of releasing a player you could put him up for auction. I'm sure it's something we could figure out down the road.

OK I will throw out an idea for bidding that is simple and effective. Feel free to criticize or add an addendum.
What if we were to create a snake for bidding. First we have the randomized stadiums so teams are listed from 1-12 to pick stadiums.
Whoever has first pick for stadiums becomes team 12 2nd pick for stadium team 11 right down to last pick for stadium who becomes team 1.
Snake 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12 Then back to 1

Example Ernie Banks comes out and team 1 bids 500K. Team 2 passes.
Team 3 bids 1M. Team 4 passes. Team 5 pass. Team 6 2M. Team 7 pass.
Team 8 2.5M Team 9 pass. Team 10 2.9M Team 11 pass. Team 12 3.2M

Team 1 now passes Team 3 bids 4.1M Team 6 passes. Team 8 4.5M
Team 10 pass. Team 12 pass.

Team 3 bids 4.8M Team 8 passes.

Team 3 wins Banks for 4.8M

This eliminates problems with last second bids plus time constraints are now not a problem because you just wait till your time to bid and either bid or pass.

If we have 5 snakes going at once the teams that win the bids now choose the next 5 players for auction.

Example: Ernie Banks Team 3 4.8M
Babe Ruth Team 6 8.5M
Rogers Hornsby Team 12 8.2M
Sandy Koufax Team 11 6.7M
Pete Alexander Team 6 7.2M

Each team winning a bid picks one of the new players for bidding and starts the bidding in the next snake.

Here are the next snakes for the next 5 players:

3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-1-2

6-7-8-9-10-11-12-1-2-3-4-5

12-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11

11-12-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10

6-7-8-9-10-11-12-1-2-3-4-5

mjruth, I love the detail and if we could make it work it is perfectly fair - BUT, I am just a little worried about having to make so many snakes for each player - this may get very time consuming given everyone's schedules, etc. I have done live drafts on Deegan's site that have taken weeks just waiting for one owner to log in and make a single pick, let alone waiting for everyone to pass/bid for multiple auction snakes.

Not a criticism, maybe I don't fully understand it.

I think an "active" bidding process, where you simply enter your bid before a set time is relatively simple. We have a standard thread to copy, something like this:

Player (Current bid and team)
B. Ruth (12.1MM, Team 4)
T.F. Brown (2.7MM, Team 12)
J. Foxx (13.2MM, Team 12)
D. Vance (4.8MM, Team 6)
L. Gehrig (7.9MM, Team 11)

If Team 1 wants to up the ante on Ruth they copy this string and paste a new post with:

[b:bfd0741886]Player (Current high bid and team)[/b:bfd0741886]
B. Ruth (12.5MM, Team 1)
T.F. Brown (2.7MM, Team 12)
J. Foxx (13.2MM, Team 12)
D. Vance (4.8MM, Team 6)
L. Gehrig (7.9MM, Team 11)

We can pick team names ahead of time to avoid any confusion with team numbers. And its relatively easy to look back and reconstrcut what happened if there are any typos, etc.

After the time passes we sort through any final bids and award the five players to the respective rosters, then post a new five. If you don't want those players, you don't have to do anything. If you won't be around at bid time eneter your best bid early - not ideal, but we will all win some and lose some because of schedule. Again, if we have a 48 hour bid period, we will have a 120 day process. If 24 hour it will be 60 days. I am fine with either.

I am happy to go with whatever the majority decides - just an idea.

I don't know how this idea will fly, but I was thinking, what if we all gave daytime contact phone numbers? I carry my cell when at work, and may be able to make bids over the phone. This would be handy when you are all waiting for me, and then all I do is pass. I know that this may not work for everyone, but if even a few can do it, it may help things to run smoothly. We may be able to at least text each other!
