NEW SUMMER LEAGUE - AUCTION - CHAT ONLY

Since the real Doogie Howser recently came out of the closet, I will allow my Son to be called the MD, because I want NO part of it.

we've actually never been in the same division before, so this should be interesting. Might get the first ever Strato bench clearing brawl. I think DO has Zimmer as his bench coach too.

[quote:2ad1999916="DHowser"]I think that if I understand it, mjruths draft idea might really be a good one. I think it might even speed things up. Say player 1 puts an opening bid of 10 mill on Ruth. Then player 2 can up the bid or pass. Once you pass you are out of the running for said player. So after going through once there might be 4 teams left bidding on Ruth. Then you could start back at team 1 again and he can either bid higher or pass, and so on.

Yes DHowser, you have described it perfectly. For the record, I am open to your method as well Gfdwarf!

with doing it this way too, you don't have to worry about someone outbidding you at the last second.

Although I understand the concerns which gfdwarf expresses, it would appear to me that this group seems quite committed, and I feel we will keep the auction process going at a good clip.

Therefore, I vote for the SNAKE

also, since I have 3rd pick for stadium, if Griffith 57 is still available, I'll take it. If not, I'll pick another tomorrow afternoon.

If that is the case - once you "pass" you are out for that player, that is my vote too - the snake!

I thought he meant you simply passed that time and could bid the next time the snake came back, which could have taken forever - that doesn't make any sense. The snake makes much more sense the way DHowser explained it - sorry - the old coconut head wasn't working....

Let's do the snake! ruth rules!

well, one way we could eliminate the problem with last second sniping of bids ala ebay is to say if there's a bid in the last minute of the period, say 8:59 to 9:00 pm, then it adds 5 minutes to the bid period i.e. the auction would expire at 9:05. This would then be the same if another last bid came in between 9:04 and 9:05 it would extend the bid period another 5 minutes. until 9:10 and so on. If the last bid were at 9:08 in this example then the auction would expire at 9:10. If however the last bid were between 9:09 and 9:10 it would then extend to 9:15 etc.

The time stamp on the boards here would control.

I vote for the snake method.
I like the five auctions at once idea.
I like the bid winners choosing the next player for bid.
If a team passes on a player, they can no longer jump back into the auction for that player. I like that a lot.
I'm not sure about the whole 48-hour thing. With the snake method, I think instead of having a deadline when the auction ends, there should be a time limit for making a bid. Miss out on bidding, you pass.
Example:
Team A announces Ernie Banks with opening bid $4M. Team B passes. Team C ups to $5M. Teams D, E, F pass. Team G bids $5.5M. Teams H and I pass. Team J does not respond within allotted time (3 hours?), passes. Team K bids $5.9M. Team L passes, etc. etc.

I think it is going to be hard to participate in each and every single player being auctioned, BUT with 300 players being auctioned, I expect to miss a bunch. And this is how some deals and steals may happen.

I have no cell phone, and I work as an editor, so quiet is paramount and so there are VERY few phone calls. Thus, I will not pass phone number along. However, I am willing to give my work e-mail, which I check a LOT.
