NEW SUMMER LEAGUE - AUCTION - CHAT ONLY

Postby BobBoone » Thu Jan 08, 2009 12:29 pm

First of all, I just want to say... WOW! You guys ROCK! I am so very impressed with both the input that I am seeing here, and the civility with which it is being delivered! I feel confident that this will go very very well.

No matter which method(s) we end up using, it is my belief that after 275 players have been taken, you could still build a very good team. I guess what I am saying is, let's just trust each other and know that whatever we settle on, we will all make it work.

If one of you would know how to set up one of those poll things, then maybe we could put each issue into one of those and simply vote.

Keep on rocking, this is going to be awesome!

RULES

Postby GFDWARF07 » Thu Jan 08, 2009 12:33 pm

Doug- I don't see any issues with what your saying. It sounds like our best bet for guidelines is:

[b:8f436c2f49]1. Snake - with PASS/SKIP (triggered at some number of hours -3, 8, 12?)

2. Two consecutive SKIPS can be considered a PASS - this is vital so we aren't stalled for days on some

3. Start at $500K and $500K bidding increment up to $3MM, then $100K increments
[/b:8f436c2f49]

Let's add to these or edit as necessary and adopt them - the sooner we get some autions going, the sooner we wills ee if it works. The Mock would be fine, but why not "just do it" and start for real?

Based on the team names we are still short a few managers checking in - Mr. Baseball World, ldanred, bkeat....

I'm in another league (or 2) with Mr. Baseball World, so I will remind him of this one.
As for bkeat, his last post was Monday in this league's original thread, so other than paging him, we may just need to be a little patient with his arrival.
Idanred posted in another league's thread that he'd be loading a team tonight, so we may have to wait for him until then.

And check this out:
www.angelfire.com/palanion/SummerAuction.html

It's ugly but serviceable. Download the spreadsheet and see if ya'all think it's functional.

I have also now started a poll thread called Summer League minimum. This is strictly for voting - not for posting. The question is:
Which should be the minimum bid?

Missed this thread

I like the skip/skip = pass.

I'll be team name Summertime Blues, but I wont raise a fuss, and I won't raise a holler

At this time, I'm not up for stadium, it seems?

Sweet! Nice work Palanion :D - thanks for setting that up - good to have a "go to" reference like that.

Could you maybe construct another poll around the time limit question? i.e. when does a non-action become a skip? (3 hours, 8 hours, 12 hours?).

And also how many consecutive skips become a PASS? (2 or 3) - I think that's the lynch pin to keeping this thing from bogging down. Then we know even a non-involved owner cannot slow us down by more than a day per auction (depending on the time variables above).

I think all these rules sound great! For the 2 consecutive passes time limit, I think 8 hours is probably good, but would it be 8 hours per pass, or just 8 hours? I'm thinking that if it's overnight and into the morning, 8 hours isn't much. I go to bed at 10:00, get up at 4:00 and get home from work at around 3:00. So that's 17 hours at a time where I have no internet access. What if we say that if you don't put a bid in within 24 hours from the start of the bidding for said player then you're out for that players bidding.

So what I'm saying is that for example Ruths bidding starts at 8 PM tonight. I'm player 3 and player 1 makes a bid and player 2 passes. If I haven't put in a bid within say 3 hours then player 4 can bid. Without passing I'm still in the bidding and can make a bid as long as it's before 8 PM the next night.

Also, if I know that I'm not going to be online until the next afternoon I could post this saying to skip my bid on Ruth and I'll be online tomorrow afternoon.

I'm just throwing this all out there. Not sure what everyone thinks, but at least it's out there.

And for that matter, do we really have to go in a certain order? If you ask the other Howser that does 2 auctions a week, the bidding is random.

DH brings up a good point....2 skips should go long enough that if you're offline a few hours, you haven't skipped twice and out of the running.

I posted another poll, this one about the SKIP/PASS question.
