I believe too that this could be a problem. (not the part about mj eating too many chicken wings though). I think a solution might be this;

Once there are 10 team reamaining with cap $$ to bid then only players worth less than 10 million can be bid on and so on.

So, it would look like this:

with 10 teams left to bid Max salary is 10 mill
9 teams is 9 mill
8 teams is 8 mill ..... and so on.... until 2 teams are left, where it's 2 mill.

We could also stop the decrease at some point (say 4 mill for example).

Sorry if I repeated myself as I was typing as I was thinking. That can sometimes be dangerous.

This puts some credence back into the minimum bid idea. I think only 6 people voted regarding the minimum bid idea. Maybe we should push that poll (also in this forum) on the 6 who did not vote...

Devils Advocate here:
I think we have somewhat settled on a 24 hour bidding period. People also agreed to as soon as one auction ends add a player. Our original idea was 5 players to start. All these auctions will end the same time and we will pick 5 new players anyway. So either we cannot start with 5 or we cannot do add 1 player at a time unless we start the auctions at different times.
Example: Banks first then 4 hours later add Alexander then 4 hours later add DiMaggio etc. etc.
Then you would be able to add 1 player at a time.

Also we have talked about a Proxy System and bidding without the snake heres the problem I see:

We would all have to have a proxy vote so that is 12 different proxy's and who is going to look after entering those bids and when??

So if a 24 hour period starts and we bid on Banks and we bid at random and 23 hours later BobBoone has the bid at 5.6M and say my Proxy bid is no more than 8M when do you bump up the bid and what does it go to? and what if someone else has a proxy of no more than 8M what happens then???
If we are to use that you might as well use a silent auction and high bidder takes the player. I have to go to work now but I will leave this food for thought. Maybe I am missing something but these were the things that popped in my head for today.
