NEW SUMMER LEAGUE - AUCTION - CHAT ONLY

Postby DHowser » Fri Jan 09, 2009 12:40 pm

ok, so it looks like we're set on a bid ending after no bid has been placed for 24 hours? So do we still have it where if someone doesn't make a bid for 24 hours then he's an auto pass? For example, Ruth goes up for bids at 10 PM EST. Say I put a bid in right away for whatever amount, and no one else bids until 9:59 PM the next night. That second bidder is going to get him automatically because the 24 hour period will be up for everyone. Or is it 24 hours after the last bid, and if so is it for everyone or just anyone that has actually placed a bid?

[quote:a5e80b29f3="gfdwarf07"]I think you pegged it Palanion - at least that what you and me agree to.

One note on your summary - I think the whole PASS thing really doesn't serve much of a purpose unless we are snaking and it sounds like we are not - it's a simple 24 hour no additional bids that determines a winner. If you don't want a player, no need to PASS, just don't bid.

As for minimums, I don't think we will have big issues. Just start at $500K. If Ruth starts at $500K, he will be up to $10MM plus in an hour. The interesting part will be the pitchers and how high they go in early bidding - would you pay $8M for Pete if you know you might get Marichal for $1M in a late round? That will be fun to strategize!

You can wait as long as you like (up to 24 hours) to bid, but if you know you are willing to go higher, just bid right away. The 24 hours basically covers guys that are away from their computers for large portions of the day.

LET"S DO IT![/quote:a5e80b29f3]

Oops, looks like my questions were answered as I was typing!!

I totally agree with this format.

This really seems to be the simplest and fairest way to do it. Really no need for a snake, as in a normal auction, anyone can bid at any time.

Also, I guess the roster size can be anywhere from 24-27? As long as you still have enough under your 80 mill you can keep adding players to 27?

So I guess as soon as stadiums are picked we can start! Who gets to choose the first 5 players?

I think the rules said 24, no more or less. No trades and no drop/adds.

I think we just want to auction a 24 man roster - no trades or changes, per the initial rules.

SO, we have three hands stacked for the just do it plan: DHowser, Palanion and gfdwarf07 - do we hear a fourth?

And I'd say we start with the top 3 hitters and top 2 pitchers (by $ value) - then go the nomination route (by the last winner).

The only way the pass would help is if the other 11 all pass to end the bidding ahead of the 24 hours. Since that may not be likely, there probably is no point in passing.

Thoughts/questions:

If I win a bid at noon, perhaps I can announce the new guy anytime thereafter and bidding can begin but the official 24 hour clock starts at a set time. That way we can get rolling and people can still be assured that if they check in before 9pm the next night they are set? Was 9 set as the start time for all auctions?

What if Manager x bids noon today and wins the bid at noon tomorrow but has not selected a new player to bid on by 9 pm? Do we wait another day?

It doesn't matter when they start theoretically. It's just 24 hours after the last bid. It gives everyone full access for at least 24 hours, whenever it works for them. That clock is rest after each bid.
