For Event 6? I believe you would go back in the East as long as errormagnate (or someone else) didn't jump in before you re-inserted your team.

Is it just my cardinals, or is anyone else finding that they won't have a position player with an OPS over .900 in their line up

Dave, a question about the draft. At some positions certain teams (I'm not saying the cardinals here  ) may be left with the only available 1 fielder who is a horrendous hitter. In those cases, the manager might try to wait it out and hope someone else takes that player so they won't have a 1 rated fielder available and can go after a better hitter with a 2 rating. (Again, this doesn't apply to the Cardinals, esp. not at 3B. Did someone say Dave Brain  ) Do we need a rule to try to prevent people from attempting to wait out having to take the "less desireable" 1 rated fielders? For instance, when Dave Brain is the last 1 rated 3B left that played for the Cardinals, I automatically get him?

And when I get him, can I use a defensive sub for him (1e37  )

I never thought of that strategy, but if when going through your team you can only find one player, please report it on here so that we know that he should be off-limits to the rest of us. I suppose there's the rare case where two managers only have one player at a position and it's the same guy, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Otherwise, I think everyone should have some flexibility. However, you are correct in assuming that I do not want people "sandbagging" their draft by avoiding certain players. I'm working hard enough to make my own team; I don't want to have to go through all the other 11 squads and make their teams, too.

When you said that it was our turn to pick a rule for the league, we should try to customize it to our franchise's strength. I noticed that a lot of Pirate players were 1s defensively, and I didn't seem to have too many HR hitters or really great pitchers, so that's why I created the rules I did. Like you noticed, most of the great hitters aren't 1s, and most of the 1s aren't great hitters. There are a few (e.g. Hammerin' Hank), but mostly this forces a defense, speed, and pitching approach. That's why I called it the "Small Ball" theme league. I'm sure this will backfire and my team will still be average to below average, but that was my theory behind this theme. It wasn't a totally blind strategy.

Lastly, JP, you can definitely use a defensive sub for Dave the Brain, but Brain needs to be penciled into the starting lineup every day.

Can my pitchers throw at him during batting practice? :)

I'm not locked into him yet, but I may be once the draft starts. How will it work if it comes to that? Do I have to burn a draft pick on him? Or can I just announce that he's the last available 1 3B for me and he's then off limits to everyone else? That seems ok for Dave Brain (I can't imagine anyone else wants him), but what if it were Roberto Alomar? It'd be pretty nice to be able to pick up Alomar without using a draft choice. Do we set a salary or OPS cut off above which you lose your next pick and below which you don't (so you don't pay the price twice for doing the right thing)?

I think an Alomar type of situation is highly unlikely.

I would still say that you should report publicly (on this thread) any position for which you only have one qualifying player. I think anyone over $5M can get a pass and not have to be drafted, but below that you have to draft him. Either way, we need to know who these "ineligible" players are.

Thanks for the many well-wishes. I dont have the energy tonight but will try and get a Giants list tomorrow. Can someone review the rules again. I understand the "1" thing it is the only playing with the franchise I am not following.
For instance Willie Mays - is he eligible to be on my team and is he eligible to be "protected".
Thanks'
Steve

He is eligible to be on your team, though you don't really need to protect him because no one else could draft him anyways.
