ATG IV 16 event Franchise League

Postby jpgavin » Sat Jan 10, 2009 11:14 am

Steve,

The basic rule for this league is that you can use any player that ever played for your franchise so long as he had one AB or one IP. Each season one manager gets to create a rule along this theme, and that rule may limit the players available to you. The idea is that you get a chance to make a rule that helps your franchise and might even improve the competitive balance between the haves (Yankees, Giants...) and the havenots (Browns/Orioles, Senators/Twins...).

This time around, every position player has to have a 1 rating defensively. It's a three step draft. First you get to "protect" 10 players carded to your franchise. Those players are off limits to everyone else until you release them after the draft. As Dave pointed out, someone like Mays isn't available to anyone else, so you have no need to protect him.

Then we have a 6 round live draft in which you can select any player that ever played for your franchise as long as they meet the AB / IP requirements. The remaining players are picked up in the Autodraft, but still must have played for your franchise at some point in their career.

Aero... I believe this was your rule set and you tend to post on here more than anyone. Now, I appreciate the fact that there is a certain level of strategy in waiting to post protected players, but really don't you think you could post yours by now?

There's really no strategy behind this. I was just waiting until errormagnate returned so that we could at least the get ball rolling on Event 6 before rushing through Event 7. People seem to be getting overwhelmed at times with different league rules and player sets, so I didn't see the need to expedite the start of Event 7. I posted the rules as soon as I thought of them so as to give people plenty of time to prepare their rosters. I have not had time to analyze my team for Event 7 completely yet, so that's why I haven't posted. I'm hoping to put my 10 guys up in the next day or so.

By the way, 3 other managers have yet to post their lists, so I wonder why this "accusation" singles me out.

Giants "protected"list:
Meyers, C. R C
Clark, W. L 1B
Frisch, F. S 3B,2B

Jackson, T. R SS,3B
SF Leftfielder L LF (aka Barry Bonds)-Pirates -keep your dang hands off him!lol
Mays, W. R CF

I know this may not be sound strategy but at least I KNOW I will have a legal line up.

Bert Niehoff

Postby jpgavin » Sat Jan 10, 2009 11:02 pm

Bert Niehoff is now the only 1 rated 2B available to the Cardinals. Giants have Frisch and the Reds have Morgan, so there's no other team that has Niehoff as the only option. Niehoff costs $1.14 mil and his OPS is 0.588. Do I have to use a draft choice to claim him?

Yes.

[quote:b69a2808ae="AeroDave10"]I would still say that you should report publicly (on this thread) any position for which you only have one qualifying player. I think anyone over $5M can get a pass and not have to be drafted, but below that you have to draft him. Either way, we need to know who these "ineligible" players are.[/quote:b69a2808ae]

Dave,

I just want to make sure I'm reading this correctly. Since I have to claim Bert Niehoff and he costs under 5 mil, it costs me a draft choice. But if the White Sox have no one left at 2B but Alomar who costs over 5 mil, they get to claim very good 2B and keep all of their draft choices?

Do I lose my first round draft choice?

With nearly everyone's protected players' lists in and you being the only one to report a real problem, I think it may be better to just disregard my previous rule and declare Niehoff off-limits to everyone but you. I encourage anyone with strong objections to this option to voice their opinions. However, I'm guessing everyone else would rather you have Niehoff than Rogers Hornsby ;)
