NEW SUMMER LEAGUE - AUCTION - CHAT ONLY

Postby mjruth » Sun Jan 11, 2009 12:01 am

I'm Back!!! I am glad my note caused many messages. I am fine with 10% but you do realize its not much more than 500K a 7M player will only be 700K. I am cool with that though.
Also is everyone aware that they need to save enough money to buy their players at the end. In other words you can't spend all your money on say 18 players and then pick up garbage for free. You have to budget for all 25 guys. Is everyone on that page?
Thx just enjoyed the Cards pounding on the Panthers. Yee Ha!!!!!

I had voted for $500K but I have no objections to 10%.

[b:a21180486e][u:a21180486e]MINIMUM BID STARTING AT 10%

DOH, GFD, BKEAT, Mr.BW, MJ, GOR - have all stated they are okay with 10%.

We need one more for a majority.

One further point. I would like to suggest when putting a bid in on a player, YOU ALSO put the name of the next player you select for auctioning, should you win the current bid.

If I am correct, the winning bidder does get to select the next player.

This way, if you win a bid, we can begin bidding right away on the next up and not have to wait for the winning bidder to then enter his next selection.

If this is cool with everyone, please remember to enter a pitcher for a pitcher, a hitter for a hitter, and a bat boy for a bat boy.

I'm good with 10%.

Also, I don't like the idea of listing your next player for auction while bidding. Partially because of how my picks may change depending on what I get.
Let's say I am actively bidding for Frisch and Speaker, hoping to get one of them. I put Cobb as my next player, figuring that I will lose out on Speaker. However, then it plays out and I get Speaker but not Frisch. While I don't have to bid on Cobb, I'm also not about to waste the opportunity to announce the next player on a guy I now have no interest in.

Okay, it now appears we have a majority ruling, stating the minimum starting bid is 10% of the players value, with a $500,000 minimum.

Therefore, any player with a price tag of $5M and under will start with an opening minimum bid of $500,000 and any player with a price tag over $5M will have a minimum opening bid of 10% of card value.

NEXT IN LINE in my brain:

Are we in agreement that when you put in a bid on a player, you also put in the next player you want in the auction, if in fact you win the current bid?

And one more thought before I pass out. I believe we should also consider having more players on the auction block at one time. The way the first round is going, it could take three days to go through the first 5 players. My thinking is we have 5 players being auctioned with a price tag of over $7M and 5 players being auctioned with a price tag of under $7M at one time, or something along those lines.

This way, if you are currently bidding on Babe Ruth but not certain whether you are going to get him, you could still feel fairly comfortable to get in the bidding on a less expensive player.

Let's have some feedback on these points, positive or negative.

[quote:df3b279ec4="Mr. Baseball World"]Does everyone know the auction has started?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure, since the only people who have not made at least one bid are you and younger Howser.

And by this time tomorrow, we might have a few new players to bid on... this is cool!!!

Bill, just read your post about not wanting to waste your opportunity on naming the next player up, when in fact you may not want to bid on him in the end. My feeling is it really isn't wasting an opportunity at all, because all of the players, especially the high priced ones will eventually hit the auction board anyway.

If I win a bid on a current player, I really don't care if the next player I put up is of interest to me or not. My feeling is that is would strictly be a means of speeding things up a little. I may be completely wrong on this, but I don't feel that way, YET.
