Old League Games

My team let one slip away in Game 5 by a sustaining a loss in the 9th inning. In Game 6, I returned the favor to Coffee by beating his ace Perez with a ninth inning comeback. Now we are down to Game 7. I do like the matchup of Reed versus Glavine. Some of my bigger bats that crush LH pitching need to come alive tonight for my team to take the crown. Reed is starting in a pitcher's ballpark which helps with his BP Home Run effect factor against LH hitters.

04 season Randy Johnson

Postby gross54 » Mon Jan 12, 2009 3:16 pm

Big Randy is not off to his best start for me.

Dunn always starts slow. Every time I have had him something like 5 of 6 teams, he starts out by getting hurt and hitting a buck fifty for the first 40 games. The he ends up with his 40 to 50 bombs with 125 RBIs. Nefi Perez always starts out hot hangs out around .285 .300 than hits nothing at the end of the season and ends up batting .250

The 2002 Championship Series was a fun one to play, a nice one to win and a tough one to lose for Coffee. I didn't think my team had much of a chance trailing 3 games to 2, playing Game 6 in the unfriemdly confines of SAFECO with staff ace Perez on the mound. Lucky for me my team won the game. I felt better about facing Glavine again in Game 7 with Rick Reed. Reed threw a complete game shutout during the regular season against Coffee. He repeated that feat last night. It was a most fortunate win for me.

In the 2003 and 2004 leagues, both JD Clark and Pushpin are taking some pretty decent strides to make this tournament competitive. Given my luck of success in 2003 and 2004, it could get mighty ineresting. Ironwill is having a horrible 2003 season. Coffee starts slow but gets perking as the season moves along. Winning the first two seasons was nice. However, we still have three more seasons to complete.

The way I see it:

Unless my team wakes up in 2003 and plays well enough in 2004, I could be fried.

Pushpin is making some strides. Being down 61 points after two leagues is tough. Coffee is moving up the ladder in 2003. A championship could yield him 15 or 20 more points to close the gap and take the lead if my team finishes poorly and out of the money. Artemus Rex is floundering but could still make a run for it given his point total.

Given how close the 2003 and 2004 standings have been, unless a manager gets red hot, this could be a three manager maybe four manager race to the finish.

2003 Update:

Well who would have though it would have come down to this for me? My Yankees are two games back with six left to play with the final three against the first place Angels. I have no other way in. I've never had first place in the division out right and was down right godawful for a good point in the decision. Goes to show you that you CAN do an overhaul of your team and still finish. Of course I had nothing to lose by doing so. We'll see how it goes and I won't go as far as to say I got the Angels where I want them but I do have an opportunity. Thats all I can ask for. Lets see how it goes.

frig you Alexx for making the playoffs... :x :x :x

My lack of pitching is what did me in...especially the closer role. Great offense though...tough having a nice win differential but ending up on the short end of a closing season.
