Help with Fenway '67 team

Postby JEFFREYSCHNAKENBERG » Thu Feb 23, 2006 1:32 am

We just finished the waiver draft last night, and this is what I've got.

I have Forbes, Oakland '73 and Yankee '56 in my division, and the league is evenly split between hitters parks and pitchers parks.

I wasn't able to bag as many of the usual nickel pitching suspects (Speer, Frock, Rommel, etc) as I would have liked. I'm deliberating dropping some lumber to bolster the pitching staff.

Drop Mathews for Bando?
Ripken for a glove man (Fernandez, Aparicio, etc)?
Joe D. for Doby?

Is is worth it to keep Nelson on a team like this? I grabbed him mainly because he was available and everyone here raves about him.

Thanks,

Grip

Gorman Thomas does well in Fenway 67. Del Ennis and Cecil Cooper do, too. You might want to look at them as cheaper alternatives to shore up your pitching. I've had good luck with Peckinpaugh at short.

It is tought to win in Fenway 67, at least for me. I like a platoon of Oglivie and SHuba in LF, cheap and very effective. I also like Rosen in Fenway, he tears it up. Lots of OBP is the key in Fenway, and boomer to drive them in. Pitching is what kills all Fenway teams, they get tired from their beatings day after day.

Your team looks pretty good, here are your lineup numbers:

OBP vs RH 0.438
SLG vs RH 0.523
OPS vs RH 0.960
HR Rate vs RH 4.2
BPHR vs RH 45
OBP vs LH 0.418
SLG vs LH 0.510
OPS vs LH 0.928
HR Rate vs LH 4.0
BPHR vs LH 44

Not sure of the SP mix, but if the typical RH/LH ratio of 8/4 exists, you are OK, if you expect to see more LH than that, make an inprovement vs LHs. Foxx at 1B is possible with a better C. 50 BPHRs is my target.

I would also consider Brett for Gehrig at 1B if you can get an upgrade at C, Lollar would be good, but I do not believe he is available on the wire. If May or Parrish come available grab them ASAP. Sit tight, things may change.

Your RPs need improvement, suggest Nelson, McKain and Mc for Baum, Staley and Hughes.

Not much on the wire for SPs.

Best of luck, sschu

I have been playing in Fenway '67 for awhile now...Love it there!

I love your hitting...you could do better than dempsey (I use Gedman alot, always good for 30+ hrs and 90-110 rbis), but the rest are rock solid. Not to contradict my friend sschu, whose advise i always value, but I ALWAYS draft Gehrig here, he is an rbi and run scoring machine! Do not get rid of him! As mentioned above, Thomas is a stud here in cf, but he is not available, and JD will rock the joint anyway, so no worries mate!

I would address your pitching, in particular your starters. I always go cheap here, never more than ruether or vuck, but you need more than 5 sp's, because you need to create matchups that work to your advantage. I always carry at least 7, sometimes 8 sp's. However, in looking at the wire, only R.Caldwell and maybe Cox interest me at this point. Keep your eye on the drops, see if Yerkes, Frock, Vance, Cvengros, etc...come available. I also never carry more than 3 good relievers, no cheap matchup guys here, because they end up being in the game alot more than you would like. I let HAL use my SP's that are not starting, and then have decent relievers (Lefferts one of my favs, along with staley and murphy) to take over. sschu also gave you some good suggestions!

A couple of my Fenway teams...

If you are looking for runs and wins, you have come to the right place! Have fun!

I was able to pick up Crandall to add some more pop.

Anyone have thoughts on dropping Mathews for Bando and investing in more pitching? How about getting crazy and substituting Rettenmund for Cuyler?
