Yes. That's why feel so at home with each other.

Best to just ignore rather abusive posts like the one from Woody. Would he say the same to Bill James or any of the SABR lot? Baseball is a game dominated by stats and a game based on it is obviously going to have lots of stats which we need to understand.

I like some of the stat ideas thrown out here. I am still learning all the little things of this game, even though I am a "Vet". When my brothers and I played the board game years ago we tracked everything. The stats took more time to track then playing the game. Besides I am raising 5 boys alone, so I need something to do when they are sleeping. The dice rolls and some of the other things along those lines would be great!!
Some things I have started tracking myself. Deja vue, my childhood again. Strat is a great thing!!! :D

Hi Guys,
About what Woody said, I thought it was kind of funny. He was just joking around. We all need to relax. I highly doubt that woody has anything against you helium.

Another thing, I was reading the other post talking about the downtime and people were complaining, how am I going to set me SP in this ball park, this is not fair!!! Does everybody take SOM this serious? I can see why I get my butt kicked all the time. I am on my second team and I have fun, but to be honest I think it really deters new people coming in, how good everyone else is. One suggestion I would make would be to create leagues for people new to the game. I'm sure people would exploit it and register new names to get in the leagues. But for the most part, I know SOM guys play because they love to play and are not really looking to beat up on people new to game.

Everyone I've come across playing SOM has been very nice and very helpful; I guess I will just have to learn as each season goes by. You guys are just too good :)

Selecting a stadium when buying a new team

Postby outlanders » Fri Feb 24, 2006 8:39 pm

When you select you're stadium, there is no way to comfirm that you chose the one you wanted until after the initial draft. So if you accidently
clicked on the wrong stadium, you're screwed.

Jim,

I think there might be newbie leagues. Also, one thing I did when starting out was to look at the leagues and see the experience of the other players. If it was full of guys with more world series rings than fingers, then you can always back out and join another league.

1. I don't think Woody meant to be abusive with his post. I've played in leagues with Woody before, and he's never had a negative thing to say, at least not that I've seen. So that, and the goofy smiley he used, leads me to believe that he was playing around.

And yes, Woody, I do feel sometimes that I am surrounded by geeks. That's why I keep coming back - you guys don't look at me all funny like the rest of the world.

2. I would really like it if we could see the stadiums chosen by the other people in the league we sign up for, BEFORE the draft. This might sound a little bit "geeky," but I would like to be able to start thinking about strategies based on opponents stadiums even before the draft. That probably doesn't make any sense.

3. If it were possible, the option to "watch" the game would be kind of cool. For anyone who has owned the PC version of Strat, you should know what I'm talking about. You play the game against a computer manager, clicking on your strategies and letting the comp roll the dice. I think it would be great if there was a replay of the game that we could "watch," complete with a link to take us there. I don't have that kind of time very often, but if my guys blow someone out of the water, say, 26-4, it would be nice to watch the ball fly all over the yard.

That's about it from me.

I believe you can go back to your draft list before you enter a league and it will tell you what stadium you have selected.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. 12 teams - 12 different Stadiums. No more leagues with 5 Shea's and 4 Petco's. First Run a stadium draft then run a player draft once you know which stadium you have. You would Rank 12 Ball Parks in the order that you'd want them and then be assigned a park based on that. If I had one wish for 2006 that would probably be it, that and maximum 25 man rosters, a minor league of up to 5 players would also be drafted, these players would however be subject to waivers if brought up and sent back down.
