Running Parallel

Postby FRANKZAHN » Sat Feb 25, 2006 8:23 am

I guess I do not understand this idea about eunning parallel. I understand the concept of a backup system but in this situation, where each "roll of the dice" is supposed to have a random result, I do not see how you can run the games on both servers and get the same results on each server.

I am disapointed that this is going on and I believe that TSN needs to do something to make this up to its clients.

In the meantime I guess we just wait.

A Clarification from Dr. James Dobson - Focus on the Family

Postby DizandMiles » Sat Feb 25, 2006 8:27 am

Dear SOMactics and friends

To clear things up - Focus on the Family had nothing to do with HAL's recent troubles. We do encourage you to spend more more time with loved ones - and in Bible Study and family activities - but I understand that there are a lot of prayers being offered up - mostly for Bernie to pull off a miracle.

after further review and reading thru some of the postings, perhaps playing this game will improve the mental health of your spouse and kids more than actually spending time with them would.

Meanwhile, the staff here at Focus on the Family will hold a prayer vigil until HAL is back up and running (we want our boxscores and statistics for our three leagues back up and running too!!!)

May God bless you and your family, and especially Bernie

Actually, the least they can do for us is nothing, which is kind of what I'm expecting in this capitalism-gone-amok-quality-means-nothing-anymore country.

Now, what they *should* do is credit everybody one free team for every day between games missed (because this is what actually counts). So, if they get everything up and running today, they should credit a player with 1 team (like me) 1 extra team, but they should credit a player with 16 teams (like others here) 16 free teams. If they end up playing 9 tonight, then they should double that, and so on.

Why should the payback be so "extreme"? Because, bottom line, we are the customers and TSN is not providing services as advertised, for example:

"Get ready for today's games! If you have changes to make to your lineups, pitchers and managing style, make them by 10pm EST in order for them to take effect for today's games. "

"How often can I change my lineup?

As often as you like. Changes made to the lineup must be saved in by 10 p.m. EST to take effect for that day's games. "

and on and on....

This really is the gang that can't shoot straight. How long before they post the "we'll be running 9 games tonight"?

Better yet, I'm in a leauge that has playoffs starting Monday (that I might nor might not have made based on the 6 game run that hasn't happened yet), let's run the playoffs tonight as well. Who cares if we get to set lineups or pitchers.

So what is to stop us from starting a new SOM game online? It seems there is interest, and Penngray and others certainly have the know-how. I'm willing to contribute start-up capital and I know some others who would as well. TSNs fubar (to use another military term) might be the best thing that happened if it inspires the creation of a new and better SOM online game company. Whadyathink?

Why don't you just move back the schedule and start with 3 games Saturday night. Tack on the missed games at the end of the schedule or move the whole schedule back. I don't think anybody would mind, especially with the problems you've been having. Get some sleep!!
