Old situation thread

[b:e0cf64ddc2]EDIT, SATURDAY 3:15PM ET[/b:e0cf64ddc2] - first post also edited with this:

Listen everybody, I don't know what to say. We don't have a solution. Some of us have been up for 50 straight hours and are stumped by an apparent network issue at the new datacenter. At this point the game is in a broken state; I'm not sure I'll be able to finish Thursday night's games even by the end of today (Saturday).

Some of you may have noticed results coming in slowly. That's because we have the ability to run the games... slowly. That's what I've been doing for the last 2 days. The obvious problem is that the longer we take to find the solution, the further behind we fall. And you don't know what to do with your teams.

All I can say is that I'm going to continue running Thursday night's games throughout the day; I don't know when they'll be completed. Postseason for both 2005 and ATG II have been completed, however, for [b:e0cf64ddc2]Thursday and Friday night, and are thus caught up.[/b:e0cf64ddc2] Because they are easier to run, I intend to keep them on schedule.

So I guess I'm saying don't expect us to be able to announce a clear schedule for games just yet. Just do your best - consider the game broken if you want - and try to enjoy the rest of your weekend. Once we're past this we'll try to make it up to you somehow.

Sincerely,
Bernie

Bernie, go home and get some sleep. Come back when refreshed and we will be here. One thinks better when refreshed. Good luck and try again later.

I understand the problems and just hope they can be sorted soon, but the only thing that gets me is that it didn't seem too long ago that the site was down for essential maintenance that went on longer than expected. How long till the next maintenance update?

Having said that there is just nothing we can do about it. Iwill just have to wait until monday as I am at work for next few days, and hope it is up and running by then. It's not the end of the world. Go and rest Bernie, as all the guys have said.

I'm sorry to hear about the problems, but things happen. What I don't understand is why run 6 games (maybe more now due to continuing problems) in one night when this thing is resolved? They shut down the NHL for the Olympics...why not shut this down until the problems are resolved and then resume to its regular schedule? It's not right for the people in tight races and playoffs that cannot make their roster moves each night. I'd rather see it shut down, then picked up as normal when TSN has it fixed.

I can wait...I looked outside and noticed the world is still turning.

Bernie, please get some sleep...you'll see things with new eyes with some rest.

One behind the US in medals at 1/10 the population!!!!

bernie,

why don't you put the game back up on the old servers. Get some sleep and start over with the upgrade on Monday -- running that system in parallel until it works -- and then re-initiate the move to the new platform when it is ready?

You are putting a lot of unneccessary stress on yourselves by doing this live, in a fish bowl, with 15,000 page views on this blog chasing you down.

This too shall pass and we shall all live and forget. My preference is to not get too backed up as the playing of a large number of series in a single night will definitely cause a bunch of random events.

(A Parody of "The Nights the Lights went Out in Georgia, with apologies)

He was on his way home from working at the shop
Season just begun, he knew he couldn’t stop
He had to get home and dial TSN up
When he saw the note
and he thought the upgrade’s doing what?
he sat right down and thought this is gonna hurt
He said I worked so hard on setting this team up
And I just got to know how it’s going down
Six games at once, I can’t handle that, just can’t react
Well, he got mad 'n' he saw red and Bernie said "Boy, don'tcha lose your head"
“ ‘cause to tell you the truth, I just don’t know what’s wrong

That’s the night that the servers went down in Strat-Land
that’s the night that we cursed an innocent man
Well, we trusted our upgrade to our dedicated IT profess’nals
And Andrey the DBA’s got blood stains on his hands

Well, Bernie got scared to post his note
Cuz he knew with Strat-Rats, it wouldn’t float
so for 48 hours he just stayed logged on
with his wife and kids waiting lonely back home
and the talk of credits and walking away
and the loyal fan base doing an about face

well the answers still are not clear
even though it seems the time for resumption is quite near
and as one by one the series get run
and the players scream of all those screwed I am the one
who had a chance to win it all
but it ended abruptly with the server’s fall

Well, I keep loggin in but the scores aren’t up
and I look at my wife and she’s had enough
and I think to myself, an upgrade? why’d ya do it?
and the kangaro court in the message board
said guilty of fan abuse in the first degree
said pass out those credits, come on get to it.

That’s the night that the servers went down in Strat-Land
that’s the night that we cursed an innocent man
Well, we trusted our upgrade to our dedicated IT profess’nals
And Andrey the DBA’s got blood stains on his hands
