[quote:11222ac9c8="BBY"]thanks for the info niners, and thanks to splinter too. I generally use mlb.com and other sites for my info, but I thought the book might be helpful my giving acutal card values. as long as the cards are accurate to the actual stats I should be good with just checking the stats.[/quote:11222ac9c8]
No problem.
There are several things that the book delivers that websites can't. Game specific information. Things like fielding ratings, steal ratings, clutch, # of BP HR's on a card, player speed ratings, pitchers hold ratings, cathers and OF's throwing arms, etc.
Some of it can be extropolated from the stats and obviously all this info is available when the game comes out right on the cards, but I'm impatient. I think most people are.
[b:11222ac9c8]I[/b:11222ac9c8] want the information ASAP.
[b:11222ac9c8]I[/b:11222ac9c8] want to see who is a likely target in drafts by my competitors and for myself.
[b:11222ac9c8]I[/b:11222ac9c8] liken it to advance scouting or draft prep.
The ratings book gives me that information in a handy package I can take anywhere without having to be tied to a computer, and I get it almost 2 months before the game is released by TSN.
To me that's it's two biggest values,
1. early inforamtion
2. I can take anywhere to read and study.
It also includes comparison pages by position for the top players. So when you (BBY) said you wanted a 3rd baseman who was better against RHP and at least a 3 on def., I looked in the book on the page for 3b and found only 12 guys get on base more than Figgins, 2 of those guys are primarily Catchers (Martin and Ianetta) and 1 is a primary 1b (Youklis) which leaves only 9 guys to fit your description:
Chipper 3e19
A-Rod 2e13
Glaus 3e8
Prado 3e10 (free agent, draft target maybe??)
Ramirez 2e20
Vazquez 3e27
Hairston Jr 3e30
Guillen C. 3e27
Mientkiewicz 3e41
How many of those would anyone actually trade for Figgins, and how many would you actually want over Figgins?
Hence my question, better how? Because it also shows there's 40+ guys with better slugging numbers than Figgins including Chris Davis, who is already on your roster as a prospect. (Granted he's a 4e16, so he doesn't meet your 3 def requirement, but if you don't want him I'll take him  )
So what [b:11222ac9c8]exactly[/b:11222ac9c8] are you looking to improve? The book gives me all that information, in one spot, easliy accessable, without having to look at 40+ different cards.
Your mileage may vary.
