[quote:22b9827a5a="jpgavin"]The whole idea of this draft was to protect teams like the White Sox so that you are able to get a few players at high salaries. [/quote:22b9827a5a]

I understand the theory, JP, and I'll definitely play ball with you. However, your logic is flawed because it considers pitching and hitting to be interchangeable and equally valuable. In reality, the value of quality hitting in this version of SOM clearly outweighs pitching, especially when dealing with salary caps in excess of $80 million

The White Sox are loaded in pitching without question. But even after cherry-picking the one $9 million position player available -- if I want him -- the franchise is woefully lacking for players worthy of the high salaries they command. Shoeless Joe is stellar in the OF, but the two "best" highest-priced players are a "4" fielding first baseman and a middle infielder guaranteed to commit more than 30 errors.

The bulk of the remaining starting position players will be in the $4-5 million range because there will be no one else available to the franchise.
To make full use of the $125 million cap, players will either have to platoon in the field or the pitching staff will have to eat up far more than anyone would want to spend in a budget.

Pardon the rant. There's no malice or ill-will intended. I just wanted to explain myself in detail.

I definately understand. And I had trouble with teams that were pitching heavy. The Dodgers may actually be worse off than the White Sox.

You have Eddie Collins available to you

majicmg,

Sorry, I didn't finish my thought.

You have Collins available to you (over 10 mil), and if you don't want to burn a draft choice on 2B, you have exclusive rights to Roberto Alomar. You've got Appling locked up too.

Sorry Novie, but Tristam is just too damn good to pass up. Well, at least you got a shot at Kirby! Oh wait, I forgot, he turned down the Sox to stay in Minnesota. Sorry.

I completely agree. I'd much rather take high priced hitters over high priced pitchers. Unfortunately, I have 6 SPs over 10M, so I'm getting crap for a draft order.
