NEW SUMMER LEAGUE - AUCTION - CHAT ONLY

Postby Mr Baseball World » Thu Feb 12, 2009 12:28 pm

Why is it that every time I see someone "sold" that I regret not bidding and every time I do bid, 5 minutes later I start regretting it and hope someone bids more?

Need fast guys with great D, outside of Honus, slim pickins for me.
Wagner got too pricey to tempt me, and ldanred never nominated Dave Chalk

with my budget andd a couple of medium targets left on my radar i am here just to snatch an odd benchwarmer or get lucky ata cheap price

i did noiminate gerber at ss but he was grabbed quickly
once palonion stole ruel from me i have been banished to spectator

this is an odd 80 mil league with all the top hitters going to be taken

As much as I've thought this might get predictable, it has not done so yet.

I thought Ruel would go for more. My winning bid was my final bid for him. I actually had a couple other guys ahead of him on my catching short list.

Then there was Dimaggio. I kept bidding, all the while thinking "I think he'd be fine on my team, in my park, but he's not who I want." I just could not stop. I think part of it was how I'd never used him in any version of ATG.

And I wanted a "stud" lefty SP, but Carlton was not who I was going to go hard for. I just somehow ended up with him.

And I totally thought Maris was going to go well over $10, and he stopped just shy of $10. I also never expected Mantle to go for more than Ruth. I since I don't see Teddy Ballgame in a ton of leagues, I was stunned to see him go above face value.

When I nominated Snider, I did so hoping he would go over face value like so many others, but Don got him for .41 below card.

I always want Mantle so I overpaid
Williams is like your Dimaggio, kind of carried away in the moment,

I did want him out of my division but spent too much

McGinnity is like your Carlton, I have had great luck with Mcginnity but still overpaid in this hitters division

I am very surprised with the high bids, but those who waited ,which appears more logical, are now paying kind of high for the remaining studs.

I guess the midlevel good players will be had ata deep discount down the road

i tried to make up for williams with decent deals on evans and murcer who i have rarely used except in theme leagues. keep up the fun

Ultimately though this is not an 80 mill league but rather a 200 mill league.

if everyone bid at a 40% rate then it would be more like a real 200 mil league,

instead many of us, and at this point almost al lof us ,have bid full value for each of the top hitters.

at the end I think the more frugal will get some great gems as their 7,8, 9 hitters and depth in starting pitching.

that combo will go against the topheavy teams like mine with mantle williams and maris in a lefty power division but terrible third and fourth starters and richardson at 2b.

i am not optimistic but willhave fun with some nice hr and obp totals from the cream of my lineup

so far overall prices are running about 100% for hitters and 75% for starters

out of the top 20 sluggers almost all are gone already, so those who have saved money will not have their usual 200 mil team

but the bagwells etc are stillout there.

there will be alot opf pressure on darrell evans to hit 35 hrs and a 380 obp for me to be competittive
i would love to do this again with maybe somewhat shorter( maybe 12 hrs) bidding times

Not sure what the rules question is, but there's a description on Palanion's site.[/quote:2a5c7a0ac0]
