Base Teams League Discussion Thread

Sknsfan has a point. I am really neutral, as being 6th puts me in the middle of the pack all the way through. It would seem fairer to just continue in a serpentine fashion for the FA rounds. I realize we probably can't change rules mid stream, unless everyone agrees, it just seems a valid complaint.

Answer - If you draft a player from an undrafted base team and he does not end up on your opening day roster, he then becomes a FA available to all. However, that cannot happen until after opening day, because the team that drafted him has his rights up to opening night, but you do not retain his rights once the season begins. Which takes us to the next answer - all undrafted FAs (not on a base team) are open game. Taking the example from above, if Todd Helton is not drafted, he can then be picked up during the season as a FA by any team. However, the roster rules must remain in effect - i.e. - you must maintain 20 from your base teams and can not have more than four FAs.

sknsfan - I understand your concern here. This is why the rule regarding rounds 3 and 4 was put in. Because you had first choice of base teams, I didn't think it fair that you have first choice of FAs. However, once Stoney makes his FA choice, the rest of round 3 [b:1b8e3d354b]must[/b:1b8e3d354b] be from that league. For example, if Stoney chooses Jack Wilson of Pittsburgh as his No. 1 pick, then the rest of the third round [b:1b8e3d354b]must[/b:1b8e3d354b] come from the NL. This way, you will get the first FA pick from the AL in round 4. Granted, there will only be two teams in the AL left to choose from, but Stoney may elect to choose an AL player, in which case you will get your choice from the remaining NL teams. I think that balances it out pretty well. Then, the remaining rounds 5 and 6 will be from either league you choose.

Since I'll be gone for a good chunk of the day now and Vince will be choosing NL, I went ahead and picked the twinkies. Clemens, Pettite, Santana, Oswalt, Lidge, Nathan...not too shabby eh?
I'm on the same boat as Stoney, got a surplus of arms, anyone up for trades? Hopefully the supplemental rounds will adress some needs.

smitty, thanks for the clarification. I was mixing this up with the rules from a similar league. So after 10 pm opening day, drafted free agents are open to all? One other question related to the Todd Helton example, you said he can be picked up during the season. (not in preseason?)
