Under $4M Hitter/Over $4M Pitcher League

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

[quote:aa831de9ea="Jablowmi"]Mike, the stud hitters (along with stadiums) will be selected by draft. The night the league fills on the board, we'll use the lottery numbers drawn that night to set the draft order. So, if you select Brett, nobody else can take him (i.e., nobody else can put him on their autodraft card). You'll put him 25th on your list.[/quote:aa831de9ea]

Thanks. That is what I thought the answer would be, but I wanted to clarify.

Not that I want to change the rules, but you could limit the salary of hitters to 32-36 million and let people pick whom ever they like. Just stick under the cap. Then they have to spend the rest of pitching and can choose between starters and relievers. Just can idea for a future theme I guess

YF - I think one of the things that is interesting about the league is that it invites managers to use players they would not normally use... at some point down the road I would like to do an all (pitchers and hitters) sub $4.5M league.

Good idea. I'd go for an all under $4.5M league. As for YF's comment, I think it's easier to enforce the league rules if players are selected according to salary and not according to the cap. And, as nycalderon points out, it forces you to create a team using a lot of players you wouldn't normally use, which is what interests me most about it.

It'll definitely be harder to make a lot of drop-add moves in the $4M league as presently set up because the universe of eligible players is so much smaller. Maybe that will inspire more trades than we see in the usual 80's league.

Alterations?

Postby rookssa1958 » Wed Sep 14, 2005 6:08 pm

As I am currently suffering throught the Mystery League version of this theme (and doing very poorly,) I am tempted to try again. However, I am wondering if it might be possible to allow 75 centers after the halfway point???????

The concept is very fun, but not being able to pick up 75 centers hurts you later in the season, when you want to drop some struggling player, but the limited pool doesn't offer any alternatives. If we could pick up 75 centers at some point in the season, then there wouldn't have to be a point of futility where you finally think there is nothing you can do about the sorry bunch of scrubs you have.........

Here is a link to my team, you can then look at some of the other good teams to try to pattern yours after....
