[quote:1654a3f96f="AeroDave10"][quote:1654a3f96f="Pjatscfy"]Just a thought, but what about doing a draft to create the league?

Here are the 12 thing I thought could be drafted:

1. salary cap
2. dh/no dh
3. drop penalty
4. player can make a division
5. player can make a division
6-12- small rule

The small rule would have to be a minor one. Example: choosing max IP or AB's for certain players to be eligible. They need one pitcher with an ERA or 4, etc...

If the manager of a small cap team gets the first pick they could use a rule like the salary cap. That would give them more of a chance to be on the same playing field as everyone else.[/quote:1654a3f96f]

Interesting thought, but I think after the salary cap, it's questionable as to the order of importance of the other spots because a "small rule" could end up being more important than the "drop penalty" or division assignments.[/quote:1654a3f96f]

The person with the first pick doesn't have to pick the salary cap. They can pick anything they want. I'd rather pick who's in my divsion than the salary cap. Some people might rather pick a small rule.

True. When I was thinking about this idea for season 16, I figured we'd vote on cap, DH, waivers, FA drop. Then assign divisions at random. Then everyone would get to make a small rule in a randomly assigned order.[/quote:abda2db2bd]

Just my opinion but I think the cap and the divisions is a huge part of this theme. it would add a lot more strategy to the draft.

The first pick drafts his/her division. The second pick is in the first picks division, so they might pick a lower cap if the rest of the division are high cap teams. Or they could pick a rule that might eliminate some key players from the other teams.

No shifting sands!

Postby AeroDave10 » Tue Feb 24, 2009 5:00 pm

With 12 managers, it seems like we have a lot of different suggestions for rules. We can't have a vote with 12 different options, and definitely not options with lots of clever rules. I think with a lot of leagues going on, a "shifting sands" league is the last thing we need now. Is it possible for JP or anyone else to summarize some of the concepts and maybe create 3 or 4 easy to follow rule choices? Here's a sample rule for what I'm hoping to see on the ballot:

$125M, DH, declare 8 carded players, 4 round draft with minimum eligibility requirement of 1000 ABs, 500 IP, or 120 appearances. Division assignment by current manager ranking through 5 events (1-4 East, 5-8 Central, 9-12 West)

Simple enough, right?

JP... here's a suggestion. It seems as if the responses to some ideas are mostly positive.... with that in mind, here's my thoughts.

1. We could leave the "Shifting Sands" idea to the final season... gives everyone plenty of time to think about little rules they may want to entertain, etc. This also allows for the many earlier suggestions for themes to be incorporated here.

2. For season 10 we could do a live draft... seems to be supported and we could vote on the particulars to finalize things. Divisions could be based on the lotto. Things we could vote on may be:
[list:f3e92dea4c]1. Salary Cap
2. DH/No DH
3. Waiver / Frenzy
4. Protected Players and Amount (number of or $$)
5. Number of Rounds
6. Eligibility Requirements (Years or Appearance numbers) [/list:u:f3e92dea4c]

I would also suggest that if we do this, that we vote on Cap / DH / Waiver first, then vote on the rest... just like we have that set first before the other manager sets the rules.

Rule choices for season 10

Postby jpgavin » Tue Feb 24, 2009 9:33 pm

1. [b:f3723c8f4b]Minimum eligability requirements[/b:f3723c8f4b]
125 mil / DH / Waivers / 5-10-20 FA drops / 4 round live draft
Declare 8 players carded to your franchise before the draft

All players on your roster must be carded to franchise - OR - have:
Career totals with franchise:

Hitters: 2500 PAs
Starting pitchers: 1000 IP
Relief pitchers: 250 IP

(AeroDave)

2. [b:f3723c8f4b]Post WWII and expansion era [/b:f3723c8f4b]
100mil / DH / waivers / 5-10-20 FA drops / Autodraft

The twist is that we use the post WW2 + expansion players and stadiums only... (2cityfan)

3. [b:f3723c8f4b]Cheap rotation[/b:f3723c8f4b]
$80 million / no DH / Frenzy / 5-10-20 FA drops / Autodraft

* Carded players only

* A ballpark from either deadball or pre-WWII.

* Pitching rotation, at least two of which are left-handed, valued at no more than $16 million total (20 million for a 5 man rotation). (majicmg)

4. [b:f3723c8f4b]One pitcher, one hitter [/b:f3723c8f4b]

60 mil / DH / waivers / 5-10-20 FA drops / 2 round live draft as below

Every team chooses a SP worth over 8 mil and a hitter worth over 9 mil. These two players must remain on your roster the entire season. The total salary of these two players must be [b:f3723c8f4b]at least [/b:f3723c8f4b]19 mil. These will be selected in a 2 round draft (one round pitchers, one round hitters). Draft order determined randomly for each round. (Not a snake.) Hitters round 1st. You may not carry any other players worth over 7 million. (jpgavin)

As always, players are available to your franchise as long as they had one AB or pitched 1/3 of an inning with your team unless otherwise indicated in the rule. Your team must have played in your stadium at some point.

My vote is the simpler, the better, I am not a smart guy and my head is reeling from these choices.

amen, the simpler the better....I just don't have the time during the month of March, with spring training, friends and family visiting, and golfing to spend time worrying about a bunch of rules and doing alot of research.Sorry but that's just the way my schedule is so if you folks can find a replacement that would be no problem with me,although I would miss being a part of this group and have enjoyed this theme.I just don't want to be holding things up for the rest of you... :)
