ATG IV 16 event Franchise League

[quote:ec6e1b3d82="andycummings65"]based on salary, the roster with the highest salary is the Postwar Yankees; lowest salaried roster if expansion white sox.
However, adding both postwar & expansion rosters together, the Dodgers have the most salary............[/quote:ec6e1b3d82]

2cityfan decides this, right?

I thought this was already decided since we voted to go with the rules he laid out. His original rules were a 2 round serpentine draft based on state lottos ...

To ATG IV 16 event Franchise League owners...

Postby Cubs48 » Mon Mar 02, 2009 2:43 am

jpgavin and all managers....sorry but I will have to drop out of the ATGIV 16 event league.I just do not have the time that is required to remain in this league and be competitive. In all fairness it would be better for all if someone who does have the time took my spot.I really enjoyed the managers and the competition in this format but had no idea it would evolve into something that required so much research, etc.Good luck to all and thanks.

Supplemental Draft and Divisions for Season 10

Postby 2cityfan » Mon Mar 02, 2009 11:53 am

to be fair for the supplemental draft it seems like there is concern regarding access to impact players by franchise.. I am not going to take the time to add up total salary and set the draft.. too many flaws in that methodology.. the key is the number of impact players, and what's important is total number of impact players you can get regardless how many are carded to your franchise.. there is no perfect system for this...

that said, here is my suggestion for the supplemental draft... I ranked the rosters by the number of +$6 mil players carded to the team, then broke the ties by looking at the number of +$5 mil players carded to the team... using this method, you can see the results below... I broke the tie at the top between the Pirates and Twins, by giving the Pirates first pick since they are the only franchise with less than 3 carded players over $7 mil...

We will do a 2 round supplemental draft following this order (not serpentine)

1 Pirates
2 Twins
3 Red Sox
4 A's
5 Cardinals
6 Cubs
7 White Sox
8 Orioles
9 Tigers
10 Yankees
11 Dodgers
12 Braves

For Divisions, I suggest a geography grouping (remember Atlanta used to be in the NL West):

East
Yankees
Red Sox
Tigers
Orioles

Central
Cubs
Cardinals
Pirates
White Sox

West
Braves
A's
Dodgers
Twins

I still don't see the point in assigning a draft order based on "carded" players when we can draft anyone who played for the franchise. Here is a better list of the number of players available. The first column of numbers is the number of available hitters to that franchise over $5M, the second column is the number of available pitchers over $5M, and the third is the total. I think this accurately captures who has the least and most opportunity to capture an "impact" player.

Twins 5 6 11
Pirates 7 7 14
Tigers 11 9 20
Braves 11 10 21
Cubs 12 10 22
Red Sox 14 10 24
White Sox 14 11 25
Orioles 15 12 27
As 20 9 29
Dodgers 18 12 30
Cardinals 19 11 30
Yankees 24 16 40

I would also suggest 1-4-7-10 division pairings based on these:

[u:553ad983d0]East[/u:553ad983d0]
Twins
Braves
White Sox
Dodgers

[u:553ad983d0]Central[/u:553ad983d0]
Pirates
Cubs
Orioles
Cardinals

[u:553ad983d0]West[/u:553ad983d0]
Tigers
Red Sox
As
Yankees

I would also like to remind everyone that I will be the Yankees, so I clearly have no motive to fudge these ;)

Oh yeah ... none of this matters until we find a replacement for Cubs48!

Can't we assign divisions by the strongest and weakest teams? Both division suggestions put me in a division with way stonger teams. How 'bout put my Twins in a division with the Pirates, Tigers and Braves? That still puts me against two teams with twice the number of impact players, but maybe I would have a fighting chance to stay under 100 losses...now if we had done the 60 mil league the division assignments wouldn't be as significant. Oh well, like I said, we all get caught with a team with a rotten chance, but as long as we haven't decided divisions, I wanted to get my lobbying in.... :)
