i am happy with slow pace, but as we progress what does anyone think about having 10 players at a time with each successful bidder nominating 2 players

So long as we think we can keep track of ten at a time...

Last evening...

Postby BobBoone » Thu Mar 19, 2009 1:18 pm

Last evening I had the honour of meeting Palanion in person. I drove two hours south of where we are vacationing to meet Bill at the Fox Run mall. I had the privilege of a two and one half hour conversation with the man that has done such a great job with the record keeping for our league and keeping us so well informed.

If any of you have such an opportunity, I urge you to take advantage of it! It is so wonderful to be able to talk Strat with someone that knows the game so well.

My 18 year old daughter who made the trip with me did not share my enthusiasm.

Win some, lose some!

Jon.

I'm OK with 10 players at some point, as long as we don't shorten the 24 hour window.
Sorry to be a stick in the mud on that point. Some days I can't check in every 12 hours.

Have Ruth on board, and the high bid on Reggie at this point.
In a pitchers park, looking at a speed and D team.

Anyone want a candy bar :?

The pleasure was all mine. I loved being able to talk Strat for 2 and 1/2 hours. It was great. And Jon taught me a few things that I hope will help my overall game. Thanks.

Jon is the second Strat community person that I've met since starting play on here in 2004. And these experiences have been great; being able to share Strat stories, tactics, strategies, failures, tips, etc. How fun!

And Jon, your daughter only bought, what, one thing? I don't think you gave her enough freedom with the plastic! I hope the rest of your vacation is great for all of you.

Later,
Bill

Guys, regarding the idea proposed about having 10 players to bid on at once...

I see a number of problems:
1. Keeping up with who has whom. Personally, I can keep up with my spreadsheet by checking 1-2x each day, but when I miss a day, I find that I often have to scroll back through 2-3 pages of the bid thread to get all the info

2. A forum page is 25 posts, so with 10 active players to bid on, it would be VERY easy to see an active player fall 3+ pages back from the most active posts. We already hit two pages back frequently.

3. For when we are getting closer to budget limits, what happens if manager A bids on player 2 and 10, but by winning both goes over budget?

Good points.

Based on those, I can't say I'm in favor of 10 at a time.

It's still winter, so the Summer League isn't ready :D

[quote:6d8e378b0d]what happens if manager A bids on player 2 and 10, but by winning both goes over budget? [/quote:6d8e378b0d] manager A has to check their money and be careful not to do this. But this is irrelevant to how many players we have to bid on, 5 or 10, anyway, as this already happened once with Idanred who inadvertently put bids out on two players when he couldn't afford to win them both. In this case his second bid was canceled.

You're right gorshar, but I think it is likely to happen more often with 10 guys being bid on and faster page turnover on the thread.
But, majority rules, and if the majority is fo 10 players, then 10 players it is.
