DEAL OR NO DEAL?

Postby bjs73 » Thu Mar 02, 2006 11:15 am

Deal. I'll take door #2 and the $279,000 cash prize that goes with it please.

(That show is brilliantly simple and dramatic.)

I sent a message to Sogcommando in case he's interested. He may have to consult his USAF manual for the rules about joining a league named USMC though... :D

Vote for #2

Postby YountFan » Thu Mar 02, 2006 12:46 pm

#2, SOG will join (he is a sucker for live drafts), but can we just sub SOG for fatty on Penn's site, or do we start over? If everyone proxies up their picks the 1st 2 round will take 5 minutes or so. I think we need to start over, but maybe penn can sub SOG for Fatty

Draft Status?

Postby Semper Gumby » Thu Mar 02, 2006 12:58 pm

Gents,

For the one Marine in the room, let me paint my [b:76fe66b5f0]left[/b:76fe66b5f0] and [b:76fe66b5f0]right [/b:76fe66b5f0]lateral limits on my availability.

I'm travelling this week (NYC - business) and next week/weekend (NYC - business/Quantico - USMC stuff) and the week following (Cayman Islands - business). Needless to say connectivity is limited but available during the early a.m. and p.m. hours. As such, I can get my proxies loaded and take my lumps as they come.

Other than my sorry excuses for 80s teams (public leagues and getting my ass kick by guys using Paul Molitor @ 2B  ), I primarily participate in live draft sites with Penn and others. So, I know that all best intentions go out the door once an owner goes MIA for more than a day.

My experience (10-12 live drafts) is you can knockout 15 rounds in 7 days but getting the teams into TSN takes just as long. So, I sense this league isn't going to see the post-waiver activity until next weekend (2 days to enter teams into TSN and 2 day delay for waivers).

In short, I'm trying to be a good owner / drafter but I can't see this draft finalized and in TSN's engines within the next three days (I leave next Thursday for D.C. / Quantico).

As such, I'd be unable to participate in any post-waiver activity as I will have three retired Marine Major Generals who aren't going to want me to drop my work on inter-agency coordination to grab Glenn Braggs. :D
Moreover, government computers at this location are highly monitored for non-government activity (hint: it is a secure location). Of course, I head for the Caymans on 13 March.

While I'd love to get my ass kicked by this crowd  , I truly doubt I can draft / fix / field a team under your time limits as played out so far.

[b:76fe66b5f0]Let me know whether you want me to drop or we can take this draft REAL SLOW -[/b:76fe66b5f0]

Slow and painful is the only way to draft

Postby YountFan » Thu Mar 02, 2006 1:48 pm

One round a day is OK with me and because I have a corner pick I can help contol that, if the other corner helps. That means two weeks of drafting and limiting proxies for you can everyone else. Everyone claims the drafting is the funnest part...lets explore this theory

One round a day will give everyone the opportunity to over analyze their selection and then lots of time to second guess the pick you did make. Oh, how wonderful. Slow and painful, sounds good if the pain is being adminstaed peoperly.

Semper,

as the other Marine in this room, I respect your position. Since the draft is named in honor of the Corps, we can't have one of the Marines leave the league.

I would think that even if you have limited access and we can get a couple rounds done each day, that should be fine. I have alot of active teams, so if this takes a little while I'm okay with that.

Moving at the pace we are now is silly, but once we get Fatty on track, hopefully we could do a round or two a day, even if you didn't rely completely on proxies.

Once the draft is done, we can hold off on entering the league until you've got access.

And why do you give a (Expletive) about three flag officers -- weren't you an enlisted guy who worked for a living ??

Can't speak for everyone else, but I'm good with taking it slow.

I know it's hard to tell sometimes what happens...but this is slower than slow.

This was going to be my 2nd. 80's team, and I'm kinda anxious to get a crack at another one.

So when I purchase a team, I wanna play ASAP, not a month from now.

Sorry to sound like an ass here guys, it's just that it gets frustrating when guys commit to something and then can't follow through. Please no offense to anyone here, I just wanted to vent a little. Especially when 80's leagues tend to fill up a bit slower than the 2005 leagues...

I really like the ability to control who I get via a Live Draft, so I'd rather go this route rather than an Autodraft. But it's easier for me to commit to these because I own my own business.

I will be away from my computer until around 9pm EST.
The draft is still aways from me, but if it gets there, I will pick when I get back home.
