Standing Watch

Postby Semper Gumby » Thu Mar 02, 2006 5:05 pm

Okay - I'll keep everyone informed on my travels but I know the draft will get going and then I'll be off the 'net.

I'm back in Cleveland today and shall drive onto the 'net this evening to fix my proxies.

My blackout periods will be [b:afc94aaa41]9-19 March[/b:afc94aaa41]

[list:afc94aaa41][i:afc94aaa41]6-8 March[/i:afc94aaa41] - NYC ([b:afc94aaa41]tentative[/b:afc94aaa41])

[i:afc94aaa41]9-12 March[/i:afc94aaa41] - Quantico, VA

[i:afc94aaa41]13 or 14-18 March[/i:afc94aaa41] - Cayman Islands (return on 18 March for father-in-law's retirement bash)

[i:afc94aaa41]19 March [/i:afc94aaa41]- Back in Cleveland [/list:u:afc94aaa41]

OK guys...you can see Semper is going to have a big blackout period. Soooo...let's keep this thing rolling.

Proxies!
Proxies!!
Proxies!!!

Also...remember...the 3 hour clock is ticking. Does anyone else besides me believe we can be loading our league Sunday? Because I sure do.

Jimmy, even if the draft was done today you'd be hard pressed to get it loaded by tomorrow night. If you load any later then Friday night you miss the cut off to start Monday. It takes at least 2 days to fill a league like this. Why? No clue, but it does

I was thinking more like:
Thursday (today) - 1 more round (total of 4 completed)
Friday - 6 more rounds
Saturday - 6 more rounds

Total of 16 rounds completed by Saturday night

Sunday...we load 12 teams into the 3 divisions.

This gets Semper off on his trip Monday to NYC (which had the word tentative next to it on his itinerary) without having to worry about loading his team. However...he will likely miss the frenzy (sad...but not the end of the world...I can relate this from personal experience).

The above scenario is very possible. We just got to get to it...check in...leave proxies...etc.

One last thing...the clock will stay on until 11pm (not 9pm). I'm a production manager in "real life"...this means when we lose time, we gotta find a way to pick it up. :D

Speed Drafting?

Postby Semper Gumby » Thu Mar 02, 2006 8:07 pm

Jimmy,

I'm no live draft expert but the proposed timeline is very optimistic.

If anything, I find the middle rounds to take the longest as owners ponder over either filling holes or countering divisional owners' line-up selections. Moreover, you can only proxy so many catchers before you run out of computer logic, e.g., Carter IF GONE Pena IF GONE Parrish IF GONE Davis.

Anyone can take [b:67b9f5daf6]George Brett[/b:67b9f5daf6] without thinking hard - it is when you are choosing among the building or defending that consumes time.

Even if we all used proxies and promised to ensure we had no less than 13 players loaded per round, it just takes one or two outages to slow the process.

As for missing the post waiver frenzy due to my travel schedule, [b:67b9f5daf6]I'd desire to be around for it and can probably live without it[/b:67b9f5daf6]. However, I would be very limited during the following week or so to make adjustments until the week after the first games.

If you are asking me, I'd rather go slow and can live with picking one or two rounds per day. At least, my baseline expectations would be set.

BTW, I picked already

OK...now IMB said he won't be around until 9ish.

Visick...will you be ready to go after IMB picks? (dumb question...you'll probably be eating dinner out there on the west coast!!).

It'll slingshot around the corner fast so be ready BJ.

Fatty promised not to go AWOL again, so hopefully Yountfan keeps an eye on the screen as he's playing the guitar.

Proxies for all you early-to-bed guys right?
