Second time I have prepared a bid on Mr. Robinson and then backed out. 15 minutes or so until he is sold. Not sure if my team is ready to integrate yet.

ATG IV in general

Postby DOHowser1 » Thu Apr 16, 2009 4:23 pm

Discussion time:

I have been reading somewhat negative comments, posted on the message boards, by various managers, pertaining to ATGIV. The main areas of discontent seem to relate to the high offensive numbers being put up by a majority of teams, and the unpredictability associated with the bullpens in general.

Even though I have had fairly good success with my ATGIV teams in general, I do end up scratching my head many times when I look at the boxscores and wonder what is happening with the pitching in general. And as for the bullpen issue(s), for example, the other night Wilhelm came into a game in the eight inning to close out a 3 run game. He pitched one inning retiring the side in order, then for some reason another much cheaper relief pitcher was brought in and was followed by two other relief pitchers who ended up blowing the 3 run lead and losing the game by 5. What gives there! I do have my settings showing Wilhelm as my closer, and also my set up man, and slow hook. All my other relief pitchers are set up under 1 inning, and quick hook.

Anyway, not to beleauger this, but what are your feelings in regard to ATGIV in general?

I am also encountering difficulty finding leagues to join, as they are taking a great deal of time to fill. Is this because of the discontent associated with ATGIV......is it because of tough economic times in general.......is it because so many are now competing in other forms of leagues, such as 2008, Bobby's Good People Tournament, etc.

One last point, has anyone here had any experience playing the 2008 league, and if so, any comments on the experience to date?

Thanks
The Elder Howser

I think a lot of people have had their fill of ATGIV. I agree, the offensive numbers are a bit ridiculous, and bullpen management is so absurd that I will hardly ever touch a non-DH league. Speaking for myself, and perhaps many others are feeling the same thing, having now played about 20 teams in ATGIV, I just don't see anything in it to keep my interest. So I play a few theme leagues, this, and the Good People tournament, and I'm probably done until ATGV, which will hopefully make pitchers relevant again.

I have one team in 2008 in a $100 mil league. Can't really say anything special about it one way or another.

As far as the 2008 set, or 2007 set, the one thing I find much better with them is that the scoring is much more normal. I enjoy having a few teams of the 08 going and a few ATG going at the same time. This way I get my fix of both.

Right now I'm in the finals of the 07 Chamionship Tournament and I just moved into 1st in my division. Still a long way to go though. The good thing with playing in the Championship Tournament is that you get a real nice variety. You play in 6 different leagues and they are all different. Probably something like the Good Peoples Tourney in the ATG.

Anyhow, if you do get bored with the ATG you really should give the 08 set a shot.

Never mind your idle chit chat, younger howser, get into the bidding and select a new pitcher. You have been awarded Mike Flanagan. I believe he is your 15th starting pitcher.

ATGIV

I find that the manager settings are absolutely useless. I am playing in a theme league right now and the team I played the other night had 9 lefties in the lineup and unfortunately I had to pitch Doc Medich who is a 7R righty. So I set him to Quick Hook and avoid lefty hitters thinking it would pull him right away and use my bullpen. But alas he pitched 7 innings and took the loss!
