Cobb batting 3rd or 4th?

Postby modmark46 » Sat Mar 04, 2006 11:36 pm

I know he is the best leadoff guy in the game. But, I have noticed that when I drop him down to the 3 or 4 spot in the lineup, my teams usually player better and go on a winning jaunt. Hmmm... I have Cuyler and Pesky to use as table setters, with Ripper to bat cleanup. I'm thinking Cobb is the perfect #3 in this situation. What do you guys think?
I am playing in Sportsman's 46, with three slugging parks in my division -Fenway 67, Huntington and Busch 64.

Lineup vs. LHP
1. Cuyler, Kiki (R) LF
2. Pesky, Johnny (L) SS
3. Cobb, Ty (L) RF
4. Collins, Ripper (S) 1B
5. Alou, Felipe (R) CF
6. Mazeroski, Bill (R) 2B
7. Crandall, Del (R) C
8. Wera, Julie (R) 3B
9. Pitcher P

Lineup vs. RHP
1. Cuyler, Kiki (R) LF
2. Pesky, Johnny (L) SS
3. Cobb, Ty (L) RF
4. Collins, Ripper (S) 1B
5. Alou, Felipe (R) CF
6. Nettles, Graig (L) 3B
7. Whitaker, Lou (L) 2B
8. Gedman, Rich (L) C
9. Pitcher P

With no link to your team or any clue what park you are using it is hard to say. When I get him, I usually hit him 3rd. Unless of course I truely don't have a lead off type then he bats first.

Sorry, forgot to list my stadium. Edited in above. Also note that I dropped G. Thomas and picked up F. Alou to play CF.

ModMark......

While I love Cobb in the 3 spot on most teams, I think your team, he needs to be in the 2 whole, especially against L

VS L
Cuyler
Cobb
Alou
Collins
Pesky
6-8, take your pick, go with the best clutch of the 3 that are left, in the 7 hole (statistically, the 7th spot in the order gets the most clutch chances a year)

VS R
I would just flip-flop Alou and Nettles in the 5/6 spots
This lineup may be a lil sensitive when it comes to really good reverse righty SPers. Just something to think about.

Hopefully this will help, team built on speed, defense and pitching. Cobb batted 4th on this team.

I think the line up you have listed is fine . Pesky generally doesn't have much of a drop off vs LHP . Plus you get him in the 2 whole where his negative clutch doesnt come into play as much .
