I couldn't agree more with Jimmy C. You took a shot. Plus, you were obviously correct on Yount and you knew it would come to pitching. There is no reason to believe that the pitchers you had would have done any better and it is unlikely that you would have been unable to uncover an SP gem that late in the season. The main reason I think you failed is b/c Candy went 19-2! How could he lose those games down the stretch? I saw him at 15-0 - how far did he make it?

Well, in a funny way, you're right about this. Candy got to 18-0 before ending the season 1-2. Lea, my best late SP pickup, who had gotten to 7-0, also went 1-2 at the end (finishing 8-2). Given the rest of my pitching, I pretty much needed those guys to be perfect to have a chance of winning. When they ended up 2-4, I had no chance! So, despite going 27-4, those two suckers really let me down.

Actually, it's interesting that Dravecky was only 13-11 despite having a 3:38 ERA that was virtually identical to both Candy--3.37--and Lea --3.38. Candy led the league in run support with 6.42, which partly accounts for his amazing w/l record. None of my other pitchers was in the top 12 in run support. Still, if my other pitchers had remotely approached the level of my top four (which also included relief ace Roy Lee Jackson (13-10, 29 saves, 2.73 IP, 171 IP [!!]), this might have been quite a team. Those four were 53-25. The rest of the team was an appalling 32-52. If the other guys had pitched .500 ball, the team would have finished with 95 wins.
