How much, if at all, do you Vets discount guys with otherwise good years who have a disproportionally high number of gb()A readings on their cards?

I have Kent Hrbek's 1984 year in the Kingdome. He has good OBP and pop but when he gets out he will hit into a ton of double plays.

I may be in the minority, but I do not take the type of outs on players cards into consideration at all when determining who to use. Some people like a lot of strikeouts on the cards because that means no double plays, but I don't factor that in to my thinking.

I also do care about the distribution of outs. But then I guess it could cost you a win or two, but then how does that balance with his OPS? I think there cannot be measured, so don;t worry about it.

You need to put someone who can steal in front of him.

Got that covered. Hrbek is in the 2 hole behind Rickey. But [whine] even though Kent is in his 1984 year he is hitting .239 with a .665 OPS in 180 ABs [/whine]

Sometimes, players just underperform. you have 3 options:

1. Keep him and hope he turns it around in the next few weeks
2. Dump him and try another. (I have dropped good players with good years before because I could suffer no longer
3. Advertise and market him to other teams in your league pointing out his year and trade him. Often another team also has an underperformer.

Or you can buy him a vowel and see if that will help

That concept must be on Herbie's mind. In our one-on-one meeting today I informed him that to avoid being cut he needs to forget about vowels and concentrate more on the first two letters in his name.
